TweakUI has a checkbox burried in it somewhere to remove the Links folder as well as adjust a lot of other things in WindowsXP. TweakUI and the other PowerToys are available HERE (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx).

The Elder Geek has a registry edit here (http://www.theeldergeek.com/remove_links_folder_in_favorites.htm) to remove the Links folder as well. Make sure you back-up the registry first if you attempt that method.

Go with TweakUI. It's one of the few really handy pieces of programming Microsoft ever did.
