have my new PC up and running - for the time being on the XP Home from the old system - am considering installing XPMC - can only get oem where i bought my hardware (newegg) within 30 days of my purchase
i assume that i will get nothing but the installation disk - how intuitive is the system? anyone around willing to assist if i have questions?
thanks
p.s. how do you guys save your system information on your posts - getting tired of re-typing mine:
LanPartynF3250Gb

Ati AIW 9800 Pro
1Gb Crucial PC3200

Are you sure you want to get Media Center edition? Windows XP professional is very good to my standards even though I'm prolly the only person in the world who hasn't had any problems with it. :p
What are you going to use your computer for? media? :D :D I don't think it makes that much of a difference anyways.

Personally I don't think I'd bother with the Media Centre edition. Just stick with XP Home or Pro, I know some have had a hard time with XP Home but I use it on my laptop and have never really had a problem with it. Well... no more or less problems than I've had with Pro.
I have had both MCE2004 and MCE2005. 2005 is so much better with all the additions to it but in order to get the full benefits I would get the remote and a TV-Tuner or AIW Radeon card.

could you guys give me a little more info on the media center edition? i will be going to college within a year and dont want to have a tv, just want to watch tv through my comp and stuff. the colleges im looking at all have deals with m$ so i can get any m$ software for free. so its not really a huge deal if i get it and dont want really want it. would this os be bad for playing games like hl2 and doom 3 on becuause i love playing comp games. what system specs would you guys recommend for media center?
I have played HL2 and Doom3 on MCE2005 with no problems. I know ATI makes MCE specific drivers but not sure about Nvidia and really don't care to know but here I'll check for ya. Yes they do. The only thing I had a problem with really on MCE was MCE says the use specific WMA codec drivers and would popup constantly saying "Found new hardware". All I did was download the WMA driver seperately and then go to device manager and point it to the extract driver folder. Too get to the point I have never noticed any lack playing games on MCE
