UMAX 1220P Scanner Driver Installation

I tracked down the correct drivers for my scanner, however, when I attempt to install them I get the warning message "the class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device".
How do I get around this warning message. This scanner is a major pain and is soon going to the curb if I don't resolve this driver issue. At present the scanner takes ages to scan a small pic. I have had the drivers installed previously and everything was working fine.. But as per normal with windows OS things have changes on their own...
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried removing the old drivers before installing new ones?

I have tried the uninstall and rollback and it tells me there are no drivers to uninstall nor rollback to. Was hoping for an inside on how to get into windows xp and make changes that will enable me to access the class installer..
