Well i built this computer for my brother and have installed Widnows. i gave him 1 80gb western digital IDE hard drive on an EPOX 8KDA motherboard. Windows will boot, but only from the CD-ROM when the Windows XP CD is in there. If windows is installed to the hard drive, why wont it boot from it? It's been real frustrating, I've reformatted and reinstalled 3 times, still no luck.

thanks

You might want to make sure in the BIOS that the boot sequence is set in the right order. Usually, it should be set to 1) A:, 2) C:, 3) optical media.

You may also want to check the jumpers on the hard drive. Make sure the disk you are trying to boot from is set on master. Also make sure it is connected to the master IDE connector, Its the blue one probabally.

Actually, many mobos don't color-code their IDE connectors. You should refer to your manual or look carefully on the mobo pcb itself (they usually have labels on the pcb).
