My system is talking ages to log into my account, it opens the login screen with the users on, i log into mine, but it stays on the screen (except with only my picture & user name) for about 2 minutes, then explorer loads up, but not fully, the start bar *shape* is there, but its just black.
then it loads up, everything is running, apart from the little norton anti-virus in the system tray, norton is operational, because when i load it up it says 'all systems active' or somthing like that. but after about 3 minutes of being logged on, and loading up norton anti-virus, the system tray icon apears......eventually.

i have used all the tweaks on pcstats to improve startup proformance, e.g. unselecting programs that i dont need on startup, and before you ask, i didnt disable norton :p i checked that.

is there any 'tweaks' you can suggest to speed up my start up, and i mean anything, if i have arleady used them, i'll use them again to check if they are working

thanks, carl.

p.s. sorry about the GIGANTIC message

Defrag... reformat? :) Remove spyware... change startup programs through msconfig...? All of my suggestions right here :)

Done all off them, i always defrag with diskeeper, i keep spyware safe with the new microsoft beta spyware thing, and spybot S&D, and i only have, and i only have 4 things running on startup, i would have 3, but cftmon wont go away, it keeps becoming ticked even if u uncheck it, but n/m

the only 3 things that load up on start up and norton, zonealarm and cursor XP,

im pretty sure its norton which is taking a while to load up, is there anyway on startup i can tell the processor to give lots of speed to norton, so it loads faster, e.g. like in the task manager by setting the priority.

there's a little thing on msconfin which says, load system files, i presume these are needed, but what happens if u uncheck it?

i'd reccomend reformat, prolly a virus or spyware that isnt being detected
