I am trying to install Fedora core 3 on my system that is running XP Pro on one disk. I was going to install Fedora core 3 on my other disk, but it stops right after the part asking what I would like to use for partitioning (Automatic Partitioning or Dr. something partitioning). When I click on the Dr. someting partitioning, it says that an error has occurred and that it can't find my disk or something. I know that with XP you have to load the SATA driver...so do you have to do the same with Linux? If so, I didn't see where you would do that. I know the problem isn't with the DVD I burned Fedora Core onto since I did the 'media check' before the install, and it passed with flying colors.

...So any ideas??

Too bad you're using nVidia chipset, if you using VIA chipset, you may have the bootable driver for the fedora core SATA................
For nVidia, the linux support is limited..................... unfortunately.........

So, there isn't a place during the installation process where you can load the driver?

I was thinking along the lines of when you have to push F6 during the setup of XP to install the SATA dirver.

Yes, but you will need a diskette @ floppy disk to load the drivers........... the thing is, there is no SATA driver for Fedora cores using nVidia chipset :p
But hey, send e-mail to nvidia and ask for the files............ they might be able to send you the files !
In Windows 98, ME, you cannot make SATA harddrives as bootable HDD...........

I'm trying to install FC3(DVD Image), on my newly bought ASRock P4V88 with VIA 8237 chipset, it also supports RAID which I can't disable. So the SATA disk is only available on the RAID. Now on FC3 installation, anaconda loads some SATA_VIA driver, but my SATA drive doesn't show up, only my 2 PATA's.

From what you said, we need a disk to load the driver, isn't that the one that anaconda loads? Another one? Where can I get it?

On the 2 PATA's I have a XP instalation that cannot be deleted until I make FC3 run to clean it up to the SATA.

Please help me out here!!!

Click HERE (http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&Type=3) to see the Via driver page................ read the .pdf, and that ought to settle your problem.......
I'm not that familiar with VIA platform, hope the link helps.............

Hi,

I've recently decided to give linux a go so I downloaded Fedora Core 3. My existing setup was XP on 2xSATA RAID 0. I read about people's problems trying to dual boot fedora and xp with sata raid so to keep it simple I decided to unplug my SATA drives, dig out an old ide harddrive and put fedora on that. Not an ideal setup but I was more interested in testing out fedora.

The installation was prettty smooth so I re-plugged in my sata drives with the intention of booting off the old IDE drive but being able to access files from the SATA. This is where the problems arise. I haven't really got a clue what i'm doing with linux but i guessed drivers would be needed so I went to the via arena page and downloaded the "VIA RAID Linux Combo driver". (Probably should have mentioned that my motherboard is an asus a7v600-x with via vt8237 southbridge.) I followed the instructions in the application note but I think the drivers were written for FC 1 so directories named in the application note didn't exist on my system. Also the driver file had a ".o" extension and all the other driver files in FC3 are".ko". Is it possible to use these drivers to get SATA drives to work? Indeed is it even possible to use SATA drives with FC3 or do I have to wait for someone to make some?

Any help is appreciated and thanks for reading this far.
