I just got photoshop and have been learning things from online tutorials. most of them assume that you're already an expert though, anyways, how do you make your background any color you want. it seems to only let me choose black or white?
It's easier than it seems - on the floating toolbar you have a paint bucket button (6th down on the right in Photoshop CS). It could also be hidden under the gradient tool - if so, just hold down the left mouse button on that. Now you've selected the paint bucket tool, set the foreground colour to what you want the background to be by left clicking the first colour displayed in that same floating toolbar. Select your colour, click ok and click on the background to fill it with that colour. You can also use the gradient fill tool that I talked about earlier.

wow, it was under the gradient tool, i look stupid.
Thanks
You don't look stupid - I made the same mistake when I first started with Photoshop. Or maybe that just makes us both look stupid hehe.

Bah..CS. 7.0 will always rule. and yeah, i made the same mistake when i started out, too. quite honestly it took me about 30 minutes to realize that some buttons had the little arrow on the right side of it meaning there were more things to choose..

I suggest "Adobe Classroom in a Book - Photoshop", it's a good book to start Photoshop. It is quite common and avaiable in public library in Hong Kong. I think you may try searching it in the public library in your city. :)

Another good tip I believe is learning the keyboard shortcuts and just play with all the filters/tools to get a feel for what they do. That's basically how I learn how to use every program.
get a pic of yourself and set yourself tagets of sheer mutilation!!! :D
if u slect something but want the edges faded, then Feather the selction,
1) Select your nose for instance
2) slections, Feath do about 30 pixels if its a high res image
3) apply a filter, maybe cut it out or deform it so u have a big nose whihc fades out so it is slightly blended already :)
good-tutorials.com is an excellent photoshop site. thats where i go when i need something done.
Heh. i just got CS2. I'm definately gonna take a look at good tutorials.
