I do want to use Mr. Softee's firewall nor Norton's. So what would be a good replacement for the above mentioned. Are they easy to install for this newbie? Thank you Comrad Geeks!!! :p
How bout MCafee firewall? My bro like Mcafee, it uses less resources than Norton or other antivirus/firewalls..................
Just get those ZoneAlarm Firewall, they work well enough :D

Dear Zefram: Do you know the cost of ZoneAlarm? What do you mean by that it uses less resources? Thanks for your response you are such a brain! :D

blueice...he means the free (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp) zonealarm. i use this one. have had no problems with it. highly recommend it. my uncle has mcafee, and quite honestly, its a huge pain in the ass. it craps out and lets a bunch of stuff pass that zone alarm doesnt.

hardware firewall is better than software..much stronger, though not quite as user-friendly. depends on what you want. hardware firewalls are built-in to basically all broadband Routers. that's my recommendation. i've been using the router's firewall for a little over two years and any of the computers behind it havn't had antivirus or anti-adware software since..never a single problem.

NotMyBestTwoDays: Thanks for the tips, but I am still using dial up. I am going to take up Speedy suggestion of ZoneAlarm and past on Mcaffe. Beam me up Scotty!
If you dont wanna spend the time to d/l the thing. You can buy it.
Neh, i'd just use the build-in hardware firewall in my nForce 3 Ultra.............. it look good enough :p
Personally, i've been a fan of Norton Antivirus, but it eats up resources (CPU cycles and RAM), but the GUI is sweet................
Normally i'd install different brand of firewall on all my PC. Let see, i have norton internet security 2005, Mcafee Internet Security Suite 7.0, and ZoneAlarm Firewall........................
:D
Yeah, go on and try ZoneAlarm, have no problem running them and eat less system resources...........

well honestly, ive had all 3 zone alarm products...the free one, zone alarm pro, and zone alarm security suite. theyre all good products but the free one works just fine for me. i think its, well, the best bang for your buck...which will be nothing. its an outstanding program.

Use Zonelab's Zonealarm. There is a free version (that works very well and may be better than Norton or McAfee). I personally use Zonealarm Pro which costs about $35 USD.

well, you can decide by looking at the features comparison HERE (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/comparison.jsp;jsessionid=COrM1PeGRU6U6ncKXNRXFxq2 Eo5PRbaF2d60928j9fJZJA2sP05n!2049770653!-1062696904!7551!7552!2025015424!-1062696905!7551!7552?lid=ho_za)
Personally, if you only use internet considerably, means you dont go to the po_rn website or wa_rez site, you will be good with the free zonealarm. If you're vateran on going to such website, and afraid they might done something (install active x and such), then get the zonealarm pro :D
Zonealarm Pro is recommended if you have underage that will use your computer, as it can block appropriate website................ if you have kids or younger siblings, this might be an added protection against, well, dark side of the internet :p

Zefram: I looked at the feature comparison and I liked what the Pro offers. Trust me, I will not go to any po_n or wa_rez sites. I did install the free version and experienced a very, very slow loading of our favorites sites. I am using 56k dial up. Am I doing anything wrong? Thanks for any helf. :( :(

yes. youre doing something horribly wrong. you have dialuphttp://www.bornhigh.com/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif
lol, if you do want to go to po_rn sites use a browser which doesn't support active x :) (quite sure that firefox doesn't as there are a few sites that won't load) also the panda online virus scanner only works with IE and it is completely active x dependent.
