I was wondering if i could somehow put cpu-z on a cd-r so that it can read a computers cpu just by being in the cd-rom, without installing it??

i think that it dont really is a program which you install
i'm pretty sure it's just a zip or something with some files in it
those files should be able to run from just about everything
unless the program try to write or something
you can try it
by 1 placing the files on a usb keyring
2 placing the files on a cd-rw so you can clean it if it dont work
worse comes to worse you copy it to a cd or whatever and then put it on there comp for the runtime...its like 3mb lol

maybe it would be a good idear not to close the cd after burning then :P
then wont cd drives not be able to read it?

You should be able to do that because Cpu-Z doesn't install itself into the Registry or anything like that. You should be able to run it off a floppy disk.

"then wont cd drives not be able to read it?"
if you dont finalize a cd you can always burn on it later
wait so if you dont finalize the cd it can still be read by comps? oh i think i was getting confused with the fact that you have to finalize an audio cd to be read correctly by cd players right?

not sure about audio files since i never tried those
but data you dont need to finalize them for other optical drives to read them
and when you burn images like bin or iso you automaticly finalize them
and you cant burn them on discs which already have stuff on them

I don't know how well that would work, because at least on some previous versions of it, it created a *.vxd file in the same directory that allowed it to read info from the board and OS and such. I'm pretty sure it can't be a read-only location.

then try locking it or just setting the files readonly
VXD (Virtual Device Driver) files are not written to when used
so i dont see why having such a file readonly should mean anything
