I have not seen an SLI round up review yet, so I don't think you'll find a head to head. You'll just have to read individual reviews.

The DFI is better if your PSU can handle it because it can overclock like mad. PCstats recently got theirs to 431mhz on air!!

They are even in terms of performance if you don't overclock though because they are built on the same chipset.

It will come down to price and features. DFI includes basically every thing but the kitchen sink with their SLI motherboard but it's probably also a little more expensive.

I agree with bluegreenshxt and would go with the DFI board. It will run you $20 more, but what's $20 when your buying a $200 mobo? :)

yea, i want the dfi board. but my dad found a ranking of amd motherboards in this months issue of pc world, and the asus was ranked #1 while the dfi board wasnt even ranked. he doesnt know what overclocking is, nor does he understand ANY of the terminology. as an example of how little knowledge he has of the computer world, he asked me today, very serious, "what is a driver? is it a type of spyware?". so i kinda want a head to head review spelling out for him that dfi is better.

You can never get up to date information from a magazine, because the article was written at least a month before the magazine hit the stores. At that time, the only SLI motherboard really available was the Asus A8N-SLI. I used to be an avid reader of Maximum PC, but I didn't renew it the last time it was up for renewal becuase reading the magazine was like watching re-runs on TV. It was all old information.

I know DFI is in the number one slot....ASUS has had some BIOS problems (nothing a flash won't fix) but due to that ASUS is lossing ground.....

In my honest opinion I would go with DFI if you are an overclocker. I have had 2 Asus boards in the last 4 months(P4C800 Deluxe and now the A8V Deluxe) and they are really stable and great, as long as they are running stock. I played around with a friends A8N SLI Deluxe and took awhile to get everything to work(incompatible with his X850XTPE PCI-E and incompatible issues with the Maxtor 300GB 16Mb SATA). I think the problem with Asus is they jump on new technology right away and then over time release bios updates to fix issues. I loved the Ultra Infinity I had with my Mobile 2500+ so again I would go for the DFI board!

heh, I would have gone with the dfi if both were available when I was buying the computer however the ASUS and the Giga-Byte SLI mobos were the only ones available at the time, and the Giga-Byte doesn't overclock at all, but it does use a passive heatsink on the northbridge, so it depends what you want. If you want an overclockers mobo get the dfi, also the fan on the asus can be annoying if you don't have a controller to turn down the fan speed. The Asus mobo does come with an identical amount of connectors and such I believe, the major diff is that the DFI has 6 onboard USB connectors, the ASUS has 4, but both support up to 8 or 10 (I have six right now with the two front ones) Also with the ASUS to switch from SLI to single GPU it's much faster, but it's usually a one time deal unless one of the cards go then you'd have to switch. Every motherboard has it's pros and cons. The ASUS seems to be troubled quite a bit with certain things, I know that one of the members here had some issues with updating the bios and not being able to overclock at all(I can't remember for sure who this was so I don't want to guess wrong) I on the other hand haven't had any problems overclocking with any bios updates, that being said I don't run my system overclocked full time because I don't notice much in terms of performance for anything that I do with it currently. Other than that though, the DFIs northbridge fan Colin said it ran in utter silence, the asus one does NOT.

The beauty of the DFI mobo is that some of the fans are controlled from the mobo's bios. The fan on the NB isnt set to run at full speed until it reaches 50C, which it has never done for me yet. So it stays really quiet.

whats the difference between the DFI UT NF4 SLI and the more expensive DFI NF4 SLI??? i know one is uv reactive...which one is and what does that mean?

bluegreenshxt

The UT one is uv reactive. That means if you have uv lights in your case, the pci slots, ram slots, pci-e slots will glow. A very beautiful effect.

There are three DFI SLI motherboards. The UT nF4 SLI-D, the UT nF4 SLI-DR, and the nF4 SLI-DR.

The DR at the back means it has 8 total sata slots. while the D at the back means it only has 4. There may also be some minor differences, but nothing major to worry about. They will all overclock nicely :p

other than the UV thing, are there any differences? i would think that board would be the more expensive one, but i guess not...

I listed the differences above. You're probably comparing the SLI-DR to the UT SLI-D.

The extra sata slots would make the SLI-DR more expensive than the UT SLI-D

ha. im an idiot. well, quite frankly, i dont really think imma need 8 sata drives...or even 4 for that matter. and iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii like cathodes :D
