View Full Version : DFI King?
With OCZ making pc4800 and pc5000 for specifically this board has DFI become the undisputed King of Motherboards for us enthusiasts? remember now that many people still consider DFI to be a second tear company. what are your opinions on this?

DFI is definitly making a name for themselves with their extreme overclocking. I wish I could get one, but none of my distributers carry them.
DFI is still considered a teir-2 manufacturer. This has nothing to do with the quality or performance of the boards though. It is all about the volume of sales really. Teir-1 manufacturers sell more boards, so they buy more chipsets. Those that buy more chipsets generally get the first dibs on buying more/new chipsets and get improved support from the chipset makers on the manufacturing side of things.

Asus is definitly a teir-1 builder. They were, I beleive, the first to have nForce4-SLI boards launched and in stores. You are right though, they really haven't done anything since, it is a little disappointing. Asus has an nForce4-Ultra board they've quietly released, a few of my distributers have them but they aren't on the Asus site even.

My two main systems at home are both running DFI LanParty boards. They are definetly my favorite series of boards. Abit would be my second choice.
I'm running my 1rst DFI mobo now -- LanParty UT NF3.
The motherboard is amazing overall, but I got a bum board, I think:
-2 of the USB ports didn't work out of the box despite all my best efforts installing drivers, etc
-after a new CPU & Ram upgrade, the onboard sound just konked out, and I only hear the bass channel
Yeah, I could have RMA'd the board I guess, had laziness not gotten the better of me.
If I were buying a new board today, I'd still likely get a DFI...

Shorty after buying my board i had problems and this is possibly the best customer support that i have ever gotton. It is said amoung economists that to prevent your company from falling into a token category your main product should not be what your producing, but support for what you are producing.
This is the perfect example. By unleashing the BIO's power on these board and providing support these boards have become the standard on which todays AMD processors reign.

i can't really say much for dfi, i was going to get a dfi lanparty II board a while ago, but when the order started taking too long i cancelled it. DIF boards are hard to get around here i guess
