Hey guys, I figured I'd ask this question here.

Can this older AT case I have accommodate the newer mobo's like todays ATX family of mobo and other ATX hardware, has anybody gone back this far with AT cases?

I hate to leave this AT case I have for dead, I'm not being cheap, its such a nice case, very well made and loaded with options. If it were an ATX, this case alone would go for $110.00 today. (sliding HDD tray, rear part of case, the panel comes in two parts to swing out of the way to access mobo with ease, thumb screws to take side panels off).

Hopefully this is my last question before I hit the send button to buying my hardware.

Then I'm sure you know what the other questoins will be to follow.

thanks, Joe

no, it wont, and ATX case can accomodate a baby AT motherboard, i think its baby AT or something like that. but not the other way around.

Hi stlouis1,

I happen to be talken to this guy the other day, he said that if I was to reuse the old power unit he would have to say no it won't fit, but he did go on to say if I changed the power unit to the newer ones of today he said to go for it!!

So I have some hardware coming tomorrow, (tue) so I'll look to see what aligns up and what don't and get back to ya on what I find out.

I see that a larger power unit will bolt into place, there is room for it.

see ya, Joe

If I liked a case that much I would try to see if I could make it work out. Just don't force anything... get the Dremel ready and see if you can make it happen!

Did you ever go shoping for something to find out what your replacing is so much better in quality than the new item your buying to replace it with?

Well........ I just installed my new socket 939 mobo (micro ATX) in my old AT mini case, and it bolted up perfect!! everything fits in every way...................... EXCEPT!!! the darn CPU assy is mounted a little bit to far over to the right making it to be in the way of the drives, the new CPU assy is so huge. Its over too much by about an inch and a half or so, cheezzze, dam it!! why they do that.......

The memory even cleared, everything worked out great, except that little clearence problem.

So your right "stlouis1" I'm sad to confirm what you said.

What I can confirm is that an micro ATX will bolt up to an AT case, but not clear the huge CPU assy and fan, they will hit the slide in case that holds the drives, mine will not slide in thru the front all the way home, they will smash into the CPU assy.

Off to NewEgg again for the power unit and case, and what ever I'll forget. after they come in.

oh well man, gotta give you props for trying, maybe if you modded the cpu cooler a bit to make it fit now...;) would be interesting, but im not sure about what the temps would be in such a small case, you'd definitely need a blowhole on top or something

I was even going to cut away at the top of the two bays of this five bay sliding bracket assy. It held three 5.25 bays up top and two 3.5 bays for drives down low.

It was only going to be just a little bit of cuting, about an inch and a half into the top two disc drives. I figured I can live with only one CD-Rom, but on second calculations it came out to where I had to cut away at all three 5.25 bays leaving no room for any CD or DVD drives, just a HDD drive and floppy..... :)

I know, I could have mounted the two CD & DVD drives on the out side on top of the case, then run the wires thru a few holes, yeah! that will work. or I could have cut a big hole in the side cover of the case and turned the mobo around so the CPU could have stuck out thru the hole in the side of the case. who said it won't work!!!

get a caddy and put your cd drive in that, connect via usb!
