I always thinking........... Intel developed MMX, SSE, SSE2 and now SSE3, and AMD just integrated all those instruction set onto their processor.
PLUS, why AMD's own instruction set, the 3D Now! and 3D Now! Professional havent been integrated into Intel's CPU?
For start, i never hear any licensing agreement or anything like AMD paying Intel to copy their instruction set, and if AMD can just ripped Intel's instruction set, why not Intel?
This is really confusing, and i'm suprised i never get any info on this stuff.

The implication, althrough not noticeable, might impact the overall value of the processor. Newer AMD64 (build on Venice Core) have SSE3 instruction, and when compared to Intel offering, i'd say Intel is short of one instruction set. So, again, value goes to AMD :D

Any ideas or info on this stuff?????

as far as i know intel and amd have had a cross licensing deal for a while and they can take any instruction set they want, i think the date intel just hasn't decided to pick up 3dnow, because as far as i know they can at anytime they want

Hmm........ and if i'm not mistaken, starting from AMD K6 until K8, all the MMX instructions are "enhanced", thus came the name Enhanced MMX or MMX+. Guess AMD is really good in taking Intel's ideas and making them faster, and cheaper :D

well, amd has always been a good bang for buck processor, there has to be a reason behind it....i kinda wish they were still an underdog, maybe they would still be way cheaper and not just plain cheaper

yeah, the AMD 64 prices are really high right now, and Intel are aggresively pricing their CPU to be more competitive............
So, many people will go Intel, because, well, the Gigahertz myth is still in nOOb and normal user brains.....

Anyone who's tested their 64-bit chip on XP x64, will be able to see that under 64-bit operation, NONE of the new chips feature any kind of MMX or 3DNow!

Apparantly they overlapped with many improved versions in SSE, SSE2 and SSE3

AMD and Intel are allowed to freely steal eachothers technology through cross licensing. Intel never adopted 3DNow because they do not want people to think AMD had a good idea. Even today you won't see Intel list AMD64 on their specs...they had to relable it EMT64.

maybe if intel stepped off the pedistal and integrated the 3dNow! they might have better gaming results.

lol, intel has the larger portion of the market cornered, what will adding 3d now give them, really

all these multimedia and integer instruction set helps a lot, in a way that when the code matched the ones inside the instruction set, the chip will have a direct answer or result..............
Its like a hardware decoder, which helps in lowering the processing time and stuff. And if the program is well written and support the instruction set, they'll have termendous effect on the processor performance.

Yeah, the problem now is that many program didnt take advantages of these instruction set...........

it's all about dominance is intel dont support stuff from the compatition then they can use their pull and marketshares to make fewer people develop using these new instructionsets

making sure that amd will always be a bit behind on the support of the latest instruction set untill they licence intel's new to support fancy features
