well, with my new system, or upgrade. i needed a new backup. so i made a windows cd with nlite that was mentioned in another thread here. i used the advanced options in it and made it put my documents and settings folder where the profiles are stored on the secondary partition of the hard drive. i setup all my software (excluding games) did all my settings. i then used norton ghost 2003 because it allows saving images on ntfs formatted discs, and made an image of the primary partition with windows and the software on it. that left me with a 2gb image at max compression. then i made a bootable dvd with ghost on it and my image. so now whenever windows crashes on me, i can throw this dvd in, boot off it, and have windows and everything reinstalled in less then 7 minutes. best thing is, its still set to use the profiles on the other partition thats left completely intact so i dont have to restore all my icons and and documents.

oh yeah

lol, it is great for saving time. i havent fuly tested it yet though, im weary of restoring just one partition. im ghosting my entire drive to my other 160gb and im going to try a restore on that, i want to make some profile changes and some other stuff to see how it takes it. but in theary it should work without a glitch. i just never ghosted single partitions, thats why im weary.

i was thinking of making a guide though like you said, but im lazy. i might do it later if someone else doesnt do it first....

A guide for what? Ghosting or using nLite?

ill make a guide for it when i have time, ill probly be fairly brief with nlite, since theres only one option i care about for this, and burning the iso. the rest will be making the partitions and stuff, installing windows, software setup is users discretion so ill be brief on that. and then ghosting and burning it to a bootable dvd will be the main focus. i might jsut get to work on that tonight

just an update for those interested. i have started working on a guide, its 7 pages long so far. it includes screen shots. i have the first 2 portions done, creating a windows cd for initial setup and burning it. i will be doing the next section tonight, installing windows and configuring it for creating the image. i will get to the rest as i go

FYI, its an MS word XP/2002 doc

if i find anyone with acrobat i might look into making a pdf doc out of it. just to make it a little more universal. ill be hosting it on my webspace when its done as well

it can be linked to here (http://www.geocities.com/syntheticman6/host/res_DVD_guide.doc) for now
