Have a k7s5a motherboard with 2x 256 pc133 sdram and a xp2200+ cpu. This mb can accomadate sdram or ddr ram as it has the slots for both. I took out the sdram and installed one 512 mb (266) pc2100 ddr ram. Rebooted the pc and just before post the videocard fan stops and the pc won't post. If I reinstall the sdram the pc boots fine. The ddr ram is tested good and I tried resetting the bios and still no post with the ddr ram. Anyone have any ideas?

it appears your mobo may not be compatable with such high frequencies.
thats wierd that a mobo would allow you to use both, are u sure it can do this??

he said he took out the sdram then installed the ddr. the mobo will use one or the other
honestly dude, get rid of the ecs mobo, get a real board, those ecs things are garbage

the motherboard is able to use sdram OR ddr ram, the ram I have is what ecs recommends for the board. As for the board being garbage, I agree these boards have been plagued with problems since their first revision, still doen't help with my problem....

well, new socket a boards supporting DDR ram are available now for like 80$~
try updating your bios, if that doesnt work, stick with the SD-RAM

Maybe the motherboard is set to use SDRAM at the moment. Try reseting CMOS first and check if there is anything you need to do to enable DDR support in the manual.
Whitecougar, read the manual properly..........
You need to set the jumper to enabled DDR and disabled the SDRAM..........
If you're misplaced the Manual, head on to the manufacturer website and then download the manual in .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) form........

There is no jumper to set the only jumper on the board is to reset the bios, I already tried to reset the bios and still the same problem.
holy crap dude, i've tried going to ECS website to search for more info and you know what?
THERE's 7 REVISION OF THIS BOARD
So, why dont you run the CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) and report to us all the info on the "motherboard" tab........
This way, it'll be easier for me to troubleshoot.......
