What is the best heatsink and fan for an socket 754 Athlon 64?
Noise isn't that much of a problem, just not a tornado.

lol i've checked out reviews on the tt big typhoon and it's veryyyy good and only rated at 16db. Zalman's line of 7000 n 7700 cpu coolers are great as well.
most of the thermalright products are good.
thermalright xp-120 with a panaflow fan is the best one available. i have the zalman 7000 al/cu and i like it. can't hear it at all. as with the thermalright you will but not to bad.

Any idea on about how loud 45 dBA is?
50dba is normal speech at 15ft. here's a pdf file that has a scale towards the bottom:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=dba+scale
here's another scale: http://www.polytechinc.com/noise.html
Arctic Cooling! it is amazing and so quiet! I use AC for both cpu and gfx!
How about the new Thermalright XP-90C? ITs a bit heavy (being all copper), but test shown positive results............ try googling for the review and make your decision wisely!

alot of people hate thermaltake
dunno why, their products are ususally louder then claimed though
Thermal right - dunno alot about them first hand
But alot of people say these products are superb
Zalman, i like zalman, their products work, and they are well made, and seem good to me
Its really up to you, depends what you want
Quitness - zalman
Performance - Thermal right
Cost - Thermaltake
This pretty much looks about right to me
somone step in if im off though :)
the XP-90C doesn't show much of a temp drop over the 120 and it costs considerably more, and yeah it's a heavy son of a goat.

On Newegg the XP-90C is $62, the XP-120 is $68.
Thanks for all the recommendations, I'm going with the XP-120 and Panaflo fan.
yahooadam, I've had a couple thermaltake cooling products, and they didn't perform anywhere near as good as other companies' products.
