Awhile after Vista comes out and stuff and winxp goes down the drain I was wondering if Linux would be a better choice. One question though...just give it to me straight.

Can Linux play my frickin' games?

if they are made in a linux version of cause many popular opengl games are

otherwise you need to look into wine and wineX to emulate dicrectx

as i recall there was some freeware that let linux play windows games. unfortunately you will see a performacne loss by 50%

*yea the winexp or whatever wasn't free, but it gave you a hell of a lot better performance. somewhere just as good and even better then windows in some cases.

thats' a good queston which reminded me. the majority of the games today are direct X based, which means windows based.

not in all games will the performance hit be that drastic. yes you will see a hit due to emulation being needed to run the game but you should have no problem playing any of the major games released. you could always hold onto xp(until it gets to security leaked) and linux will come along with something that will satisfy your gaming needs a little better.

i'm waiting for the 21st so i can go pic up the old comps my wifes old boss is giving me. Ubuntu is going on at some point and i'll be exploring the gaming aspect of linux. i am not looking forward to Vista and it's 7 yes 7 different versions.
