Would it be possible to mix a, for example, koolance GPU water block in a asetek water kit if they were both 1/2 inch?
Sure. Use a Swiftech CPU block, Danger Den NB block, Polarflo GPU block... as long as it fits, it will work. Just ask yourself whether you want a high flow rate system, and get a block to suit. (This doesnt matter THAT much, but can shave off a few degrees.)
On that example, I uh, dont know any 1/2inch Asetek parts. Its all 10mm push-fits. And if you do intend to get Danger Den or something equally hardcore, be aware you have to supply your own jubile clips to clamp the pipes down.

Also make sure everything is copper. If you mix Copper and Aluminum cooling components, electrolytic corrosion can occur that will destroy parts.
get the Swiftech Storm cpu block if you can afford it. better than the TDX according to alot of water cooling sites i've been visiting to put my system together.
