ok so on my new laptop, it has xp home. i have a LEGAL copy of xp pro. i want to install xp pro on my laptop but the problem is everytime i put the pro cd in, it tells me that the current os is more up to date than the one on the disk. all i want to do is upgrade the fricken thing to pro. reason being is im too lazy to go and find all the drivers for my laptop. im not really sure why i cant install xp pro. ive done it before with the same exact disk, but for some reason i cant do it. anyone got any ideas?

I think your just going to have to format and do a clean install of windows.
Yeah, formatted the whole PC, and then reinstall the windows :D

You can only upgrade with a retail box version of XP, be it home or pro.
OEM versions are made for pre-install only. Also if your XP Home is SP2 and your Pro isn't it makes for a screwfest if you do try to upgrade with a retail version.

Is the XP Pro SP2? If not is the XP Home on your laptop SP2?
