Everytime I try to view a .PDF in Firefox it falls over dead and I have to bring task manager up to shut it down, my screen goes all funny while I'm doing it, and afterwards the PC moves at the speed of an artharitic tortoise.

Anyone else have this problem?

I don't have that problem, then again I learned how crappy acrobat was a long time ago.
I use Foxit now.

I've been doing allright with Firefox 1.0.7 and Acrobat 7.0. I was actually browsing a few PDFs before I format my drive last night and I don't remember any issues at all. Are you using the same version of the software or older?

Firefox 1.0.6, and the latest acrobat... Not sure if it's firefox or my crappy work PC.

Athlon XP1900 (1.6ghz)
256mb PC2100 Ram

It's seriously badly set up as well. I've peeked inside and the first thing I noticed is that the HDD is on the slave connector of the primary IDE, with nothing plugged in the end.

The 1900+ is a little older chip, but it should be capable of what you are trying to do here. I might try reinstalling the software. I just tried a PDF in another tab as I write this post and it came up immidiatly. The Acrobat updater never seems to work for me, so I am definitly running version 7.0.0.

I hate viewing PDFs inside the browser. I always right-click and 'save target as..' and put it on the desktop or a folder somewhere and then go back and look at it later or right away.

Yet another reason I use Foxit. :)

There is a little known trick to kick Acrobat into gear. Go to your 'Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader' folder, and make a backup copy of the folder 'plug_ins'. Call it whatever you want. Then delete everything in the folder 'plug_ins' except EWH32.API.

Voila. The acrobat does a triple somersault.

That's a tip that I posted here in the forum out of PC Magazine.
