A couple of friends have sorted out a new website from a company but they are asking about something called a Zone file? I was just wondering if anyone knew what this type of file is and what they need to do about it?

The zone file is supplied by your hosting company. It has all your IP and DNS info that makes you able to get to the site wether you type in www.mysite.com or http://mysite.com. The web monkeys shouldn't need access to it, they should just upload the page to your host. Unless there is some crazy new coding that I don't know about I think you are getting set up for a "special service" charge.
