wow, I like the before, thats perfect for me, where did you get it?
that before one looks to crowded. lol.
Heh I like your case, its the same one I have. Nice and light huh?
Good setup that you have now, mine is a piece of junk...

that old one is good, I have a 21" CRT and its in my freaking way so bad, all I would change is the keyboard thing underneath, those things suck!!

wow, I like the before, thats perfect for me, where did you get it? I don't even remember. I originally bought it because I had a 21" CRT. It was a great desk for that, but with an LCD I don't have the need for so much extra space. It was also very hard to keep organized.
wow, he even built better awards on his wall.LOL...nice catch. Actually this desk is taller so I moved the ribbons above the metals :p
Good carpenting skill, i must say
I never would put anything above my head in a DIY DESK, because it will involved serious head injury when, say, a photo printer drop onto your noggin :p
Anyway, i never like those multi-leveled desk like the old ones you have avid, the new one look more sleek and stylish - simplicity at its best :D

Wood is so yesterday. My desks are glass, combinations of the Z-line offerings from Staples.
Mainly cause I can't build ************************ with glass and metal.

I've been putting a lot of thought into building my own desk. Mine would be a wrap-around kind of desk, 'cause one of these days I'm going to go with two LCDs, so from left to right it'll be TV, stereo, monitor1, monitor2. Between stereo and monitor1 will be the center of the 90° bend.
I've been doing some work for a capentry contractor. I was playing with his $40,000USD table saw the other day. That thing is niiice. Digitally automated rip fence and if you feel the edge of the wood that got cut, it is glass smooth. Totally awesome.

Mainly cause I can't build ************************ with glass and metal. I can't build anything with glass or metal either. I am a fan of wooden desks though. They have a much more solid feel to them, and they help to dampen noise. I also have so much crap all over the prlace, desk shelves help to hide it. If the majority of the desk was glass you'd be able to see right through it to the crap I'm trying to hide :)
Just last week I finished the desk for my main rig. It's more of a bench style because I need room to work on it.
http://hardware-geek.com/Pictures/benchdesk01.jpg
http://hardware-geek.com/Pictures/benchdesk02.jpg
Wow............. that is sooo nice! Your desk are longer than mine
Which means more room for HARDWARE!!!
Anyway, wouldnt you want to put your PC ontop of your table? This way you could stare the insides of your PC all day long...... :p
Avid6eek
11-06-05, 10:09 PM
7 feet long :)
The point of the lenght was to allow me to play with open hardware on it.
lol... nice.... building stuff is fun.
had to go get a dremel today cause part of my car's intake bracket snapped, had to do some cutting and welding. :D always wanted to get a dremel, now i can cut the crap outta that side panel of mine and make a hole for an extra fan :D

Dremels are the way to go, get yourself a flex-shaft and some hardened tips...watch the metal fly!!!
Man, you build everything, ever. I'll wait for you to buy your own immersion lithography equipment so you can make your own CPUs. :p
And fear my desk (http://forum.pcstats.com/showthread.php?t=32282&page=1)! With its blatantly unmodded stacker! Man, I just havent had the time for mods, now that i've been fired and uni is really kicking in.

Fired? Explain.
Fired? Explain.
The company apparently has a reputation of not keeping people on for longer than a few months. Which is a damn shame, I like money, but I still live at home, so am not a slave to it. I'd normally be jobhunting right now but i'm waiting til my assignments dont need weekly updates. Stops me cramming.
I'm gonna end up at the very least getting a temp job over ex-mas, but I cant really find a permanent one as my placement year is next year.

*Snap* That's right! I forgot about optical mice not working on glass. You just have to tape a piece of paper to it, or use a mouse pad lol. I remembed I had a computer desk at my moms that I think no one uses. I'll have to re-enforce it with some 2X4's or what ever. It's just some particle board, cheapy-doo desk. I'll need to modify it slightly if it's to hold up a 60 pound moniter. Or I could just gather up a few cinder blocks and a sheet of plywood for a computer desk.

was funny when my sister tryed to use a mouse on her glass desk
her and my dad spent about 5 minuites wondering why it wasnt working, till i came in and said laser mice dont work on glass
also i dont think their great on black surfaces
puched pockets and stuff also have the same effect, though not as bad

weird
well black should absorb the light so it should work aswell on it
then again maybe cos it absorbs the light it removes like extra light and stuff and makes it work better
oh well ;)

**Explained better in my next post** If you are referring to tint, thats a different matter since its based on what the tinting reflects and what it allows to pass unreflected.
Textured surfaces (fUnc sUrface1030) are also a plus for lazer and optical mouse use, this is due to the grooves and pits providing a shadow effect allowing mice to track better since its easier to measure distances.

There is no big difference between the 560's and 5500's. I actually like listening to music better on the Z-560's, while gaming on the 5500's is slightly better. If I didn't own any speakers and had to buy just one set, I'd go with the 560's.

Darker colors absorb heat, not the light itself (very basic explanation); you also have to consider wavelength frequencies. If you are referring to tint, thats a different matter since its based on what the tinting reflects and what it allows to pass unreflected.

somone never did science
Black things are black as they do not reflect light
they absorb the light and thus look black
other colours absorb the colours of the spectrum and reflect back their own colour, making them look that particular colour

I misunderstood your you interpretation, and you appear to do the same to mine.
To say Black does not reflect light is to make it to simplictic, since as anyone can see, a mouse lazer or optical light does in fact reflect on dark surfaces. Black is also the abstance of light, and thus color (just close your eyes). You can also create black by combining pigments whos reflected light combines into a black color.
Optical and lazer tracking works so well on dark surfaces because of hues and the contrast it causes.

Omga if you put the glass on top of another surface its gonna work. It doesn't work when you try glass by itself.
nope, had it on my lap with the portion i was using the mouse having nothing under it. i don't know if i just got lucky but it works for me. obviously if you place the glass on another surface it's just like using the underlying surface to use the mouse.

actually im not sure to what extent this is true
as the light enters the glass it will refract
if you look at the edge of the glass during use you will see the laser light at the edges (unless its got those polished edges)

Well I resurrected this thread to prevent making a duplicate..
I needed a desk in my "data centre" which is nothing more than my sister's room since she moved out a year ago.
I had the plywood laying around already, and all I had to purchase were four 2x4x96's.
small wing [1280x960; 184,648 bytes] (http://www.lifelessempathy.net/pics/pcstats/desk/IMG_0002.JPG)
large wing [1280x960; 224,971 bytes] (http://www.lifelessempathy.net/pics/pcstats/desk/IMG_0003.JPG)
sort-of whole desk [1280x960; 200,004 bytes] (http://www.lifelessempathy.net/pics/pcstats/desk/IMG_0004.JPG)
And yes, I know the room is pink. It's the same color as Pepto Bismal. I didn't choose it.

i disagree wood will always be nice besides you aint gonna tell me glass is more comfterable : its easier to break lasermouses wont be as precise and it can be very cold on the other hand wood looks warm and feels warmer then glass and if u take the right type of wood it is way much pretier with a bit of design :D

Well, my desk is simple. Its actually 2 of the exact same desks from Ikea. I've done no modding yet, but I plan to cut a piece out of the back of the spot where my PC is, so it can stick out the back, because currently, the sticking out the front 5" isn't working so well with my chair. It's quite messy, I need to clean up around here soon. Can anyone find my 20mm bullet?

Hey, the creams are left over from when my sister was living here. We finally emptied the room out a few weeks ago, and I built an extention to the "short" wing.
as far back as I can go [853x640; 50,309 bytes] (http://www.lifelessempathy.net/pics/pcstats/desk/pict2024.jpg)
what I used to have to work with [853x640; 60,903 bytes] (http://www.lifelessempathy.net/pics/pcstats/desk/pict2025.jpg)
currently active rigs [853x640; 45,727 bytes] (http://www.lifelessempathy.net/pics/pcstats/desk/pict2026.jpg)
CD-ROMs, HDDs, floppies, PCI cards, P-IIs, PSUs [853x640; 56,027 bytes] (http://www.lifelessempathy.net/pics/pcstats/desk/pict2027.jpg)
these four are always going to be hooked up; neat wiring [853x640; 61,433 bytes] (http://www.lifelessempathy.net/pics/pcstats/desk/pict2028.jpg)
a look behind the rigs [640x853; 91,238 bytes] (http://www.lifelessempathy.net/pics/pcstats/desk/pict2029.jpg)
close-up of the active rigs [853x640; 48,273 bytes] (http://www.lifelessempathy.net/pics/pcstats/desk/pict2030.jpg)
I'm pretty proud of this setup. Daedalus (left-most rig) is my Athlon MP rig, and since it has two NICs, my house network comes into NIC1 and the rig is a DHCP server/router for the network that NIC2 creates with the rack-mount switch. Icarus is my clean and neat wiring (http://forum.pcstats.com/showthread.php?t=37483) rig. Apollo is 64-bit, and Athena is one I slapped together last weekend and it has a KT7A-RAID board in it with a gig of SD-RAM.

Yeah... heh.... there's actually 7.
(From left to right)
Main PC (Athlon 64 3500+, and works beautifully)
PIII (kinda works, having some HDD problems)
Sister's Computer (Duron 3100+, I think, having problems loading windows)
Dad's old computer (Pentium PRO 188mHz 256kb cache, lmao. works)
HTPC in temp case (P4 and Radeon AIW 9600XT, works, installing software currently)
The top of a black case behind the open case is my sister's friends PC, Compaq. She's having modem problems, I'm working with it, probably just drivers.
And the open-air PC works, but I'm in the process of moving it to a new "case"

20 Power sockets, 1 phone/next conection. :D
Separate ringmain to power the office so if a fuse blows elsewhere in teh house all the comps in teh office dont shut down. So its kinda well isolated off :D
20A dedicated power lines. Just for a heads up Kitchens here usually get 30A the electrician said and they use 3kw kettles washing machines and dishwashers. So he said youd be lucky to max this out :D but said if you get close hed change it up for more :D.

Love your case, I had a setup like that for about a month while installing stuff for my ammo box :). Wanna clean up that little wad o' cash on your motherboard tray by any chance?
