Ok, so my stock HSF was ************************ty enough...come to find out it had a sticky thermal pad, instead of a silver based compound...most of the heat was just floating off the back of the core keeping my NB chipset HS nice and toasty... ...So anyways, i was thinking i might be able to stick my stock VGA cooler on my northbridge chip in place of the passive cooler that resides there now...and maybe stick the passive heatsink on my southbridge...would this be practical, or just a waste of time...

Note: when i overclock, my southbridge chip gets really hot...so that's why i was wondering if that was a good idea....

*Edit*
Hopefully this silencer can cool my card enough to get some higher clocks...cause my mem artifacts at 335mhz, and the core craps out at around 470...and that's with stock cooling attached by a thermal pad...and nothing on the ram...right now my 3Dmark03 is at 4247 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=4398369) on stock cooling...

Why are you still using a Celeron? Have you honestly thought of an upgrade? I wouldn't even try to do what you are doing with the setup you have...! You don't have the money, right?

Congratulations Caption Obvious on making people feel like crap.
How about keeping it on topic now?

The more heatsink the better. If they fit on your motherboard then whats the harm in trying?

There you are...doing what isn't really a benefit to the problem, do you have a
solution? Probably not...

make 600 a month...300 rent...65 cellphone...food is in there too...sometimes i'm lucky to get an extra 50 bucks in a month and that's the canadian dollar...that's why i'm still on a celeron...and i'm probably going to get another, cause they're like 85 bucks canadian...so then i can play CS:S at 30FPS on low settings, and still own ass...

Anyway, would an active gpu HSF on the northbridge, instead of a passive cooler be significantly beneficial to achieving higher clocks?? or is it not really worth it...or will case fans and a passive cooler do the trick??

*Edit*
Yeah, you probably laugh if i told you how long it took me to save up the 400 bucks for this build...

Well, I don't care how long it took, it's money well earned and you want to spend it in the best and most profitable way...

I can't answer that question with any authority, but what I would do is get the best air-cooled HSF on my processor and Northbridge chipset, do what I could to improve air-flow in my case and get the best air-flow on my vid card before I attempted any type of OC'ing. Make sure you have all your ducks in a row and then start slowly in the OC'ing areana...that's what a lot of the boys in this forum suggest... :p

Almost seems like it's not worth the money. That's why I'm not touching this Dell that I use at the moment. Besides, it's not mine. I say, just sell the system on eBay. Just put Wayne Gretsky's autograph on the case, a picture of Jesus, and throw on some Care Bear stickers for good measure. Then you got yourself a hot sellin' item! Your eMachine is just as bad as this Dell, except you have a WAY better graphics card.

the only thing emachines is the case....lol, i'm in the process of modding it...

I think I can safely say that you have the best Celeron system I've seen. I just don't think that's something to brag about lol.

atm a better cooler on his GFX card is the best solution

if you can mount your old HSF on the NB it will be better then a passive one for OC'ing

it it will fit

and if you have a space HS why not put it on the SB

you not gonna get lots outta that system, but fortunetly CS:S isnt a really demanding game

Lol, i've never bragged about my computer...

BTW, I'm in the process of doing some minor upgrades on this system...I might stick a Celeron D somethin in it, and i might be able to get a good deal on a 9600xt...but after that i'm not touching it, cause then i'll focus on modding the case, and getting a credit card so i can build an A64 rig...

Yeah, i'd need a thermal apoxy or somethin to stick that active cooler on my NB...and i'd have to extand the lead on for the fan, and swap the plug on it to fit a system fan header...
