ok here is the plan, somebody with a x-fi fatality or pro, look at the x-ram and find out everything about it. then we will see if it can be bought sepratly. basically the x-ram on the plat and extream music is only 2mb, so theoretically it is possible to remove the 2mb ram and replace it with the 64mb (even higher :D ). then install using fatality drivers so that it can detect x-ram, or scratch that step. is it possible? I mean you could easly atach leds to a platinum, so this should work! any ideas? anyone with a extra $120 us? lets see if it can be done :) !

i have a platinum, no x-ram :*(

I doubt the hardware in the other two models would be able to adress the larger amount of ram.

I don't think this will work. The board are mad my machines, you want to do something crazy. The X-Ram is placed in a different location. Also you need a blue print of the board to understand if the ram can be simply added or if you need some sort of other chips/ connections. Also the drive wont help. You need to flahs the cards bios with the Fatal1ty edition bios. Good luck if you do. Look at my work log for some pics of the card. I will take High Res pics of the card tommorow for you to campare the PCBs.

it would require firmware and really good f###in soldering skills. im not sure though bout expanding it that much. memory density could become an issue, and matching pinouts....but i can c it possible....

worth it though...?

skills with micro 2M soldering and a schematic of both boards to make sure everything is the same with the exception of placement of ram modules. if they have the exact same PCB and traces but just put the 2mb on one with connections to certain traces and the 64mb on a different location with other traces then it is possible. the next thing you would need to know is how different the firmware is and if it's possible to do the change and flash the firmware to detect the card as a different model.

i seriously doubt that Creative will release this info to you or any other person for that matter. major manufacturer or otherwise. with a multi layer PCB you won't be able to see where all the traces connect to. basically you would need to spare cards of each model to destroy and a real good knowledge of what you are doing for success.

wow, I thought this would get no replies sry, I don't thing they have seprate firmware, because it would cost less to manufacture 1 card with speprate machiens puting bling on it, i mean on the extream music and plat models the led leads are still on the card, and the extream music and plat have a 2mb xram right above the processor. I mean creative probebly hasn't made much profit on their sound cards ecept with the extream gamers. so it would be natural to produce 1 card, then split the cards 50/50 and then the 50 that becomes fataility and pro is split 50/50 again for the different audio parts on the pro. The fataility is just a suped up platinum. but yes a prof solderer is required, deffinetly not me.

too technical

Its cheaper to make a board the same hardware wise, leave the x-RAM out and different firmware. Its so easy for them to make to firmware. Do you are not sure of manythings. Get a blue print of both then we will talk. But till then this cant be done.

Man I dont think you understand how complex the board is. A god dam machine is the one that solderd the bottom of the board. like a pool The board pass over it and the areas get soldered. You know what the means. You cant do this. NO, NO. Can't do it.

But if you reall want to dude go head. Please do me a fav though. Take a pic when it blows up.
