The specifications for my motherboard (Asus A8V Deluxe) says that the 4 USB ports on it should be 2.0 ports...but whenever I plug my mp3 player into one of the ports, it says 'Blah blah this could go faster if you plug it into a 2.0 port blah blah'...Any ideas on why the ports on my motherboard aren't registering as 2.0??
Here's a link to the specs of the MOBO...http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQz

What version of windows XP are you using?

Sp2 support high-speed USB2.0 devices, SP1 and older version requires some fix from the manufacturer.....

then, check your BIOS and make sure the USB are set to high-speed............... i've never dealt with Asus A8V, but i did played around with my brother Asus P4P800-X.........

Alright I checked the BIOS..it says it's Enabled. Whenever I plug my mp3 player into one of the ports it gives me this:

Have you installed the latest chipset drivers for the motherboard, or is there a driver package specifically for the USB 2.0? Might be worth checking the BIOS as well to see if there is some way to toggle the USB mode or enable the 2.0 support some how.

It's enabled in the BIOs..on the CD that came with the motherboard, under 'Drivers', I can click on an 'USB 2.0 Driver' option, but it just opens a notepad file that says:
"Microsoft Windows Update lists all available updates on the Web.
You need download Windows XP Service Pack 1 because Microsoft
USB 2.0 drivers are included."

I have Service Pack 2 installed...I thought 2 had all of Service Pack 1 with it, and more? Should I reinstall SP2??

Are you sure its the USB2.0? there aint Enable/disable option for USB2.0, that option normally for Legacy USB devices......

Update your BIOS, and check again and see whether there is option to set your USB to High-Speed (480Mbps) rather than Full-Speed (12MBps)

I've seen a few boards where the USB mode could be set to 1.1 or 2.0, I'd hope it would be pretty clear if this were the case though. Have you been to the Via website to get the Via Hyperion chipset driver, or perhaps a specific USB 2.0 driver for your chipset?
