Ok, here's one i need u guys to argue out for me!
I want to build my own PC with the aim to eventually learn how to overclock blah blah. I have narrowed my motherboard choices down to the two i think most suitable but now can't decide which to go for...
They are,
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium or
DFI LANPartyUT NF4 SLI-DR Expert
Someone tell me which is gonna be best in the long run! My main use is for a high end digital audio workstation but I want to start getting into gaming too
Thanks guys (and girls)

In terms of stability and features, they are both awsome motherboards. When it comes to overclocking, DFI pwns the compeition. Both of the boards are excellent choices and it's very hard to choose between the two. I'd say that since the DFI series is much more common here in the forums, it'd be much easier to get help with that board if you need it.

ummm if you havent overclocked before then the Asus is probably your best bet.
the DFI is an extreme overclockers/tweakers motherboard. The BIOS is full of options to tweak jus about anything you want and may take awhile to get setup the way you want it, it can be rather frustrating for someone who doesnt know there way around its bios

hehe the 3 first posters are sporting DFI's hehe, but yea just like chris said, asus might be a better choice if you are not going to be OCing, DFI are OC kings

If you're going to use Corsair Ram, then forget the DFI...it doesn't work too well.

Doesn't it just figured that an Asus owner would have to come into the thread and talk crap. Who said anything about Corsair?
well. my corsair ram (which is now in lazy's rig) did not work at all with my dfi mobo. i have the ocz's that were lazy's and it works fine now.

Ok, it looks like its gonna be an asus for me cuz the DFI looks way outta my league at the moment in terms of technicality. Which is better the A8n32-SLI deluxe or the A8N-SLI premium?
As for processors...AMD 64 x2 or the FX's?

The DFI isn't that bad :p. If you aren't sure, just leave the settings to auto :p
If you are not plannin on SLI, bet teh A8N premium. The A8N32 has 2x16x pci-e bandwidth for SLI and an e-SATA plug as well. I forgot the rest of the differences.

Yeah, I currently have the Asus A8N SLI Deluxe and it's been a great board to me but it doesn't offer the kind of OC'ing options I would like. I thought about getting the DFI LANPartyUT NF4 SLI-DR Expert mobo, but I've heard from many people that it has compatibility issues with certain types of RAM and such. Anyone happen to know which types of RAM work best?

Also, I have a Dell 8300 which im sure is under performing compared to a self build P4 3.0 Prescot with 1gb Ram. Any suggestions? Maybe salvage the motherboard and get a new one to overclock it a bit?
there are corsairs that play well with DFI. there are some modules that don't however. take a shoot over to DFI-Street and check this thread: Corsair tests (http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25447) . it may be that the new bios's have solved this issue but you'd have to read the thread to find out. i had a 512mb stick of XMS PC3200 that worked just fine with my DFI 250gb and DFI NF4X Infinity. old CH-5 stick. also check this s939 Overclock Database (http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10195), there a few people using corsair.

Really the only thing that can be salvaged from an OEM like dell is the processor and Drives. everything else is pretty much Proprietary which means that the PSU is wired to work only with Dell motherboards, if you were to replace the motherboard and use the dell psu, it would propbably fry the new motherboard and vice-versa.
by the time you have done that you would have been better off goin with a complete AMD system that would whomp that p4 3.0 :D

DFI is a great company. My first build and first overclocking experience was with a DFI mobo, and it went very smooth. As for ram, you could look that up on their website. Generally, OCZ, G.Skill and Muskin work flawlessly with those boards. Also, I would definitely recommend dual core over single at this point.
