I have a Cooler Master Stacker 810, and by using 3 120MM (12CM) Fan @ 1000-1200RPM, my system is practically silent............. and there's only a problem here :p
on top of Stacker 810, there is a hole for you to mount a 80MM fan.......... and being a hardware junkies, i went ahead and buy those SunBeamTech 80MM CCFL Fans (http://www.sunbeamtech.com/index-2.html), and when it spun at 2000-3000RPM you could say it makes my system sounds bad.....
Thus, yesterday i went ahead and bought those Thermaltake UFO Twin Blade Fans (http://www.thermaltake.com/2005/dcfans/ComboCool/ufoSeries/green.htm). This fan, with the combination of Cooler Master Aerogate II, could make the fan silent............... i was dead wrong!

The Fan, at the maximum speed of 4000RPM could scare away your cats and girlfriend from your room and could probably chopped the s*it out of your finger with its 12-blade fans..............

I tried throttling the fan down to the lowest speed, but everytime it reach 1100RPM the fan would just automatically spun itself to 1300RPM.......
Aerogate II just couldnt control this beast........

Anyway, i like these fan, the airflow it pushes is incredible, and the spinning, bright LED light is just........ great
So, is there any mod or way to let the fan throttle down to the lowest speed?

get a potentiometer and wire it into the wire that supplies power to the fan maybe? then you could turn up resistance to have less rpm, turn it down for more. not sure if that would work or not, mobo might just keep pushing more power into the fan every time you turn up resistance on the pot. maybe worth a try.
that looks like an awesome fan though.

I would just get a hole saw and cut the hole on the top out to fit a 120 and get yourself another one of those. I added four fans to my case like that. Two on the side, two on the top. I have 7 80mm fans (including CPU HSF), and the 120mm beast in the PSU.

It doesn't seem all that loud until you turn the system off and then it's like deafening silence. You can hear your blood rushing through your ears once again, and a lot of other tiny noises you never heard before.

I'm in the same boat as NMB2D with the 80mm problem. But at least the Aspire PSU is nice n quiet :D

Really want a new case that has 120mm slots; looking at that Gigabyte 3D Aurora but me has no money. Guess I'll stick with generic green chieftec case.
