I found a couple of these boards for £30 each (though they are b-grade stock, so very limited warrenty with them) but didnt this board have some problems with Avid or did Avid have problems with this board?

I have a Duron 750, XP1600 and a XP2400 that I'm trying to do something with... Can anyone suggest anything to me?
I cant seem to find ANY Socket A based motherboards, whatsoever :( The ones that I do, I've never heard of. Asrock? Are these any good? they are using a VIA type chipset...

I need some help!! Advice please someone!! :o

Asrock is the value line of Asus, they are okay boards, the MSI board is better IMHO.

The socket A boards are drying up since socket A processors are no longer produced.

So what's best to do? Not bother with the Socket A board at all and get something else or just make use of the XP CPU's I have (so I'll need one more board) and then leave it at that?

I had one of the MSI boards you want to get. I had one problem with it and had to RMA but that was almost a year after i bought it and after heavy Overclocking. I sold it to a friend of mine when I "upgraded" and it is still running strong for him. I would get it if you can get it for cheap. But seeing as how you said £30 and thats is something like $60 american i dont know if it is worth it, i remember it being about $60 american when I bought it originally like 3 years ago in aug 03

Sounds like I may as well save up for two AMD 64 systems!! :(

I think I'd take an Asrock board over an MSI actually. I've had so many problems with MSI boards in the past that I just wouldn't trust them in my own system any more. All the Asrock boards I've used for customers and friends have turned out great. They are a low-priced brand but the quality seem fine and their performance is where you'd expect.

I was kinda put off of MSI by Avid's story of it catching fire... Something I didnt want to put to the test to be honest...

I think for £30 they arent bad.. Shame they are VIA chipsets... I'm sure they will do just fine :)

Plenty of boards can catch fire... Asrock boards are fine for socket A, though I do like the Asrock SiS based boards, but they are difficult to find in my area, plenty more of them sold in Europe than in North America.

At this point, I'm looking for a socket A board in attempts to maintain my XP computer. Honestly you could probably pick up a nice Nforce or SiS board that is used and in good working order for a quid from someone.

Asrock 741 series would probably do well with all your processors, that board is based on the SiS741 chipset and there is plenty of support for them online in various forums.

That would be another way to go, S754 systems are pretty cheap right now...

To be honest guys, I'm only building them cheaply so that I can sell them off, I wont be keeping them.
