View Full Version : Best dual cpu mobo?
anyone know what mobo is the best overclocker for a daul Opteron setup? just curious. can't really find any infromative stuff via google. that is using the keywords i have.
my MSI Master2-Far motherboard has MSI core cell chip on it. its got software based overclocking tools built it that work with it to. i dont over clock tem but the 1.8ghz optys went up to 1.99 when i tried it. you just click go :D and it adjusts voltage and multipliers and FSB and all sorts for you. it would be a good start then to go in to the bios from there to carry on tweeking. you thinking geting a opty rig and trying to over clock it?
or just curious?

imho then if you want pro server and workstaion
tyan.com is the place to go
yea i got teh msi one in my main rig and the tyan in the other one. the msi one just with that corecell chip seems a bit more of one that can be overclocked easlier. just a point from both makes. i havnt really explored them overclocking wise just teh impression i get from them

my main dual is asus old mpx mobo
while it's ok then i'd say that asus and msi
are more known as overclocking mobo's then
pro uptime critial server workstation mobos
like tyan
but then ppl who need high uptime and stability would hardly
overclock that much
and i would not want a serverworks chipset on a system where
i needed compatiblity with games and the likes
i can just imagien ati or nvidia's mail back to me if i compained that
wow work not work well with a serverworks chipset and one of their gpu
"dear X sorry but our gpu is made to run on pc's and windows and linux
this serverworks system or os or cpu or ? is not supported..." :P

you trying to beat avid ? :p
do it :D beat avids rig :D omaga put in dual core opty 285's :P they fast lil buggers. Avid why did you use 2700 ddr? the optys above revicion C stepping, 246 and above can support DDR400, your mem bandwidth would be higher still then surley?

Avid used 3200 in it... his mem bandwidth was 12.8 GB/s which is right on target for 3200 with NUMA enabled
The board that Avid has dosent have a PCI lock on it so he can only oc his FSB to 220 before it starts to fail. This maybe a problem with most server/workstation boards considering they arnt made to be OC'd
my bad. i could only remember the benchmarks i thought i saw 2700 chosen as the ram for benchmarking with. forgot to check sig before posing
this isn't for the beat down on Avid:D that's still in the works. this is more of a side interest i may delve into. so i need to be careful of mobo's without PCI locks still i see since Avid is having this problem. thanks for the guidance fellas.
