View Full Version : The Dangers of an IO Shield.

A couple weeks ago I was putting an IO shield on a customers PC when my dog walked in the room and I turned around.
I slipped onto it and it went about an inch into my hand, almost out the other side.
Anyhow, just got the picture of it for you guys after I came back from the hospital. It was pretty nasty, as it was actually spurting everywhere.
Let this be a lesson to ya: don't start working on a PC really freakin' early in the morning when you're not fully awake yet. It was kinda funny in a sick way though..my gf FREAKED out.

Enjoy!
Edit: Now about 16 days later it's all healed up, but it's leaving a nasty scar.. :(

nice dude
i sliced into my finger pretty bad (not stiches bad tho) with the expansion bay
i was popping out one of those clip in sheild things, and bam my fingers in it, when trying to get it out i found out how sharp they are
Ive been more careful since then ;) its damn hard using ure comp - or writing when your finger has been sliced
Infact - the scar on my middle finger (a larger bit of skin) i believe is from that cut - though im not sure

I've yet to bleed due to a computer-related accident...it's usually from being drunk...but when i'm drunk i just play games...no tinkering...

I can't open a case at all without getting some kind of slice. Most of the time it's from the chassis 'cause I pick it up and turn it over and rotate it around and such, and the inside lip on the cases are always f'n sharp. Of course I haven't had a bad enough slice to need stitches, but I've gotten some pretty good cuts before.
My worst one was trying to figure out how the F a Dell case opened up and my pinky got a slice right next to the fingernail but kind of underneath. It bled for about 30 minutes. I did the home-made gauze and taped it up and continued trying to figure it out. I was pissed after an hour and a half when I found out that the second 5¼ bay had a press-in handle/latch and it opened right up. It was totally hidden though and for the life of me, I couldn't find it. Dells are retarded.

Since we're talking about cuts and such..
I can pull the engine out of my truck, completely tear it down, rebuild it, and put it back in without a single cut/scrape/scratch/busted knuckle.
I can't even replace the air filter in a Japanese POS without needing stitches. It was total Hell when I pulled an engine out and rebuilt it. Ugh. Not to mention when you have to go up to your shoulder to reach something that needs three hands to do, and the one hand/arm was hard enough to get in there. Everything on my truck is wide-open. I sit on the wheel well inside the engine compartment to work on mine.

When I get drunk I start fights...that usually hurts more than messing with the PC. At least in the morning it does..

That's pretty funny though: got in a fight with the IO shield, and it looks like it won. :SuN049:
My feet know the pain of computer bits. Take a look at the pics from the link in my sig, you'll see the lower fan has really long screws holding it in (thats all I had to work with), and my damn feet keep getting gashed on em every time I sit down. I dont even notice, despite the wound being four to five inches long at times. Leaves a nasty scab, but its hardly anything truly scar causing.
As for building-related bloodery, putting that crap together destroyed my hands. I'm not even typing with fingers, just bloody stubs.

kinda distusting how you could see the different layers of fat tissue that had been cut

I wonder if you can sue :p :D
was there a warning about any sharp edges on the package? not likely, so yeah, you could probly sue, and win...or settle out of court, especially if you don't regain full use of you're hand

there probably would be a warning on it
everything these days has enough warnings on it to keep your ass clean for a year

i have never seen a warning on the plastic bags those things are wrapped in man
theyve probably hidden it somewhere
in the manual, in a general clause you agree to when you open the box, who knows, but you can bet your bottom dolar that they have their asses covered
