No dvd decoder?

I put in a DVD movie and it tells me I have no DVD decoding software installed!??
This pc came with a CDRW and DVD!!
Whats missing?

you need to install a program like powerDVD

Personally i prefer WinDVD but there are some codec packs and such that will allow you to play DVDs in Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player.

maybe with the right plugin you can also use winamp if thats your bag baby

I know that Winamp was thinking of offering DVD playback with thair Winamp Pro.

Yeah the lack of DVD decoding software built into WindowsXP or Windows Media player sort of chaps my ass. Such a simple thing, I really think Microsoft ought to have supported it.
