I purchased DVD XCopy Gold from 321 Studios some years ago. Since then I've bought several new computers, and I just tried to install it on my newest one. The software says it has already used up 7 activations. Since the company is out of business (although I had heard they had reconstituted), the phone number in the software doesn't work (it actually goes to a phone-sex site).

So what do I do? I hate the thought of having to buy new copy software when I own a legal copy of something that works. :-(

If there is no solution, does anyone have a suggestion as to which inexpensive software package that can be bought either on-line or preferably in a store (e.g., CompUSA, BestBuy, etc.) would be best? I want to make backup copies of movies I own while they still work.

I would suggest using the free software DVDShrink just google it. It has alot of nice features like custom compression levels for menus, extras, ext and being able to leave out audio tracts you dont want or to pick and chose what to backup. Its really an amazing program.

Thank you, Thanatos, for your fast and helpful response.

For anyone else interested in this problem, I just found out that 123Studios reconstituted itself outside of the U.S. They are now known as "DVD X Copy International" and can be found at:

I asked them about this problem but haven't heard back yet.
