http://portforward.com/ if youve never been there you must go, possibly the most helpful website ever when it comes to routers and allowing it to do whatever you want, like setup dedicated servers in cs or any other game or program on any kind of router you can think of ;-).

why would I want to do that when I can pay a high schooler $700/hr to do it "professionally"

I figured out how to do port forwarding in two minutes after digging around the router's configuration pages. Then six months later I read the user manual and what do you know..I was doing it right. :p

yeah but this site gives you steop by step info and what ports to use, instead of digging around for that

Well if you're serious about setting something up that needs port forwarding, you should already know what ports you need or will use. I use my own ports anyways instead of the default standard ones. 10021, 10023, 10080 for ftp, telnet, http. That's to escape portscans.

I tryed portforwarding, but it hurt my connection so bad that it was just useless. It cut a about 250Kb/s down too 30Kb/s (I have such a bad connection ;)). But if a program really needs I use ports in the 65000 range :)

i figured out port forwarding about forty seconds into my google inquiry of "how to make bittorrent stop acting like a stupid piece of crap".
but yes port forwarding is wonderful.
