anyone know how to split video? i have a video i want to send via email to my mother in law but the file size is to large even for Gmail to send so i want to split the video into smaller chunks to be able to send. any idea with xilisoft or any other software?

Try this out, used it a few times. Easy to use too! I can't remember how long the trial lasts, perhaps 2 weeks? Well, you'll get good use out of it.

One thing I was thinking of is if you've gotten that 1&1 domain yet, you could just upload it to there, if not, you could use WinRAR and pack it into an archive and set it to split it up in like 5mb pieces. *shrug* Of course you'd have to send WinRAR to her and walk her through the installation and such, so it starts to seem more troublesome than it's worth.

I know how to do it with Sony Vegas but not sure if you can get that or not....

Sony Vegas huh? well the one FrozenMercury recommended isn't playing nice for some reason so that's not working out. i'll check out this other one and see what's up.

NMB2D, i think i may go ahead and do the 1&1 deal this monday and see how that works out. i really wanted to have total control over the server so i was piecing one together but in the mean time at least i could check out this option. It would be a hell of alot easier to get all the videos and pics of the new baby to all of the family without all the emailing and such. i had actually forgotten about it when a truck ton of elephant $H!t hit the fan at work around then.

you could use www.yousendit.com up to 2 gig.

With 1&1, you can cancel before the 6 months is up and just feed them some BS about how you weren't fully satisfied or something, and you get all your money back. The 6 months thing is just for whatever package you choose, and depends on which one. Mine was only 3 months. That'll give you six months to come up with something else though, and it'll be free, too.

I used a file called AVI Splitter (original name I know), but the damn thing always screwed up the audio/video sync. And pretty badly too. If I recall, Boilsoft AVI Splitter worked a little better though, you could try that.

As other people are suggesting, I'd just get yourself some hosting and upload the whole thing, or set up IIS on your home PC so others can download it directly from you.

However, I know that wasn't what you asked. So, if you really want to split it, the best way would be to use VirtualDub. There's a guide here if you need it.

AVI Splitter never gave me any problems. Audio and video was in sync. Perhaps you're fancy AMD processors are too good, try a P4. I assume this is the only task that you're doing. Not jammin' to some toons while trying to split a video?

virtualdub worked out just great. still couldn't get the easy splitter deal to work so i'm glad VD did. wifey has this baby site that she did for free and we're allowed video uploads so we'll see how much space is allowed. if i need more space then i'll just go for the 1&1 deal with 50gb of web space. that should be plenty for a long while of just little man videos:D in the meantime i can email the fam some videos as we make em'.

Try VideoCharge (http://www.videocharge.com/Index.php) - this program very powerful for the given problem

Supports all videos formats and also is able to work not changing an original format!, and to split files instantly!

That is very important at work with the big files - to not wait some hours...

A bit late for this... but why split it? I don't know what the size is to start with, but I'd just encode it. If she's only wanting to watch it. I bet you could get it well under 10mb... then zip it, and email or post on a ftp. Or just put it up on YouTube? I'd use visualHub for encoding though.

Yeah, know alot more about encoding now. Been playing with it and still learning more. Just wish i could get the real deal H.264 encoder but that is like $2000. Way out of my league. I'll stick with DivX and AVC, etc.
