Can your software scan documents, then able to alter the document in some type of Word? Then fax it right from your computer? Or just flat out scan a document to file away?

I don't know what type of operating system does this, or if you bought a software package that you like that does this type of work? please tell me what you have.

A while back when I had scanners I hadn't already broken, I think I used Scansoft Paperport (just because it came free with one of the scanners), which had OCR built in (Optimal Character Recognition - the bit of the software that takes the flat image and tries to turn it into words). It worked OK, although there would always be some errors in the OCR that you needed to manually correct. You could export to .doc if I recall. I'm sure things have come on since then, and if you just do a Google on OCR software or search through Amazon or what have you, some decent packages will come up. Just don't expect error free OCR, and don't even think about attempting to do this with handwritten texts.

Your so right about OCR, I got an 1100 Lazer Jet printer from HP 6 years ago that has OCR, and to this day I'm yet to get it to work where I can at least do my first document.

I believe the brothers 5 in 1 machine I have will do the trick, I'm yet to try it again when I have more patients, as I get older I have no more time nor patients to read directions any more.

oh, good luck with that. way i see it, theres no need to take photos with something other than a digital camera. and if someone was able to type, print it out, and hand it to me, they can email me. tis a newage when i can escape printers and scanners, and paper, they take up space.

bill gates promissed an office without paper, so an office without paper i shall have.

seriously though, as far as ocr, try scanning higer dpi, and or using some different programs, or updating what you have
