when i plug either my speakers or my headphones into my back sound port i get sound in my right ear only, if i fiddle with the plug and pull it out just a little, i get sound in both ears but its from one channel so i cant hear a seperate left and right.

this is the line out green port.

then when i plug the headphones or speakers in the front line out port i get sound in both ears cept the left and right speakers are reversed.

this is so odd. do you guys know what the hell is going on?

I'm confused. Have you got a speaker system & plugging into your sub, or have you got a 5.1 sound card or something, or a motherboard with onboard sound, or what? You appear to be talking about multiple line out ports... or is it the case that you've got an extra headphones socket on the front of your rig along with some USB headers or something, and just the normal line in/out/mic ports on the rear?

intergrated sound in mobo. speakers plugged into line in port in back. i disconnected the front ports on the mobo and the back sound works fine, apparently the front ports arent connected right. but the front sound plug is th e same size as the mobo connector, but it seems the plugs are different or are lined up differently cause i get all these probs.

When it comes to rear port wiggling, it is likely because of bad port hardware. That is, the stereo miniplug internals are bent/distorted/whatever and/or oxidized/corroded just enough to cause a problem. Common in these things, even with those on the ends of stereo wiring in headphones, mics, etc.

The front one... Molex connectors are the standard for connecting to motherboards from external ports and can't be reversed without breaking. However, that doesn't mean the wires were put to the molex plug correctly during manufacture. They may be switched around. OR the wires may be reversed at the plug assembly at the case.

another thing to look into is that some onboard sound cards
have only 4 connectors but still support 5.1 and line in/mic
in those cases one have to deside which output is what
as in if it's line in or sub and center
thats normaly don with jumper or bios or windows settings
if those are set wrong maybe thats the culpit
