View Full Version : Question About Car Modification
Due to the increase in petrol price and the fact that i've almost lost in a race with a hot chicks in his toyota corolla means that i need to increase my car horsepower whilst reducing petrol consumption :D
Since i was a TOTAL nOOb about car stuff, so i need advise on the following stuff :
http://www.brothers.com.my/images/3_products/product/Voltage-Stabilizer.jpg
The salesman did say that this so called voltage stabilizer will increase horsepower and stuff...... so.... yeah.....
http://www.brothers.com.my/images/3_products/product/kompressor.jpg
This is a air compressor. What does it do? Compress air....
http://www.brothers.com.my/images/3_products/product/Magnetic.jpg
Oil magnetizer............ supposedly it will magnetized the petrol and stuff......
How effective this combination will be?
The salesman said that it will save around 20% of total petrol consumption and increase the horsepower. I know a lot of you know about car, please advise.........

the magnitizer was origanially designed for help in the purifing of crude oil as it was being pumped so they would no longer have top rely on prefrrin wax it could raise proformace by making oil more effective but no much its just a cleaner in the most basic infomation i could find

air compressor turbochargers and superchargers to increase the performance of internal combustion engines by concentrating oxygen
A voltage stabiliser is an electronic device able to deliver relatively constant output voltage when input voltage and load current changes over time.
The output voltage is usually regulated using a transistor. In a parallel stabiliser the transistor is connected parallel to the stabiliser load, consuming the excess of power. This type of stabiliser is seldom used. In the more popular sequential stabiliser the transistor is connected sequentially with the stabiliser load, restricting the output current.

now i want you to say thank you wikipedia!
now i want you to say thank you wikipedia!
And i gotta say THANK YOU Mr. Dalek for all that information!
Now, do these stuff really works? Will you see noticeable performance boost and petrol saving? :D
These forum suggestion and ideas helped me in making better purchases over the years. Here's a terminology of my buying process :
Inquiry>Salesman Recommendation>Web Review>FORUM SUGGESTION>Parents Consent>Parents Consent>Getting money from parents>Threaten them for money>FORUM>
Just messing with ya all........ love this forum :D
the only thing on there that might possibly do anything for you is the voltage stablizer ... in terms of producing a stonger cleaner spark ... but you are better off with higher output coil packs to be honest.
if you want to increase performance start with the normal route of intakes and exhaust ... if thats not enough look into larger cams heavier rockers and springs and then turbos or superchargers.
oh and performance + gas economy = an oxymoron .... not gonna happen ;)
in short... none of that stuff will do anything noticible to your car.
Now what car do you drive and maybe I can direct you...
P.S. this is what I do on weekends...

first of all what car do you have? once you tell me this i can tell you the potential of the car and if it's even worth the effort to go through the whole deal.
my first car was a Toyota Corolla GTS otherwise known among the drift set as the AE86. after spending many of my paychecks on it came out to 242hp at the rear wheel and had a race suspension. not the best comfort ride but that damn thing was a friggin' gokart and was fast as hell. not a top speed car but if i went against many cars in a curvy road or something like that it was very hard for them to even keep up.
hmm......time to start my own thread.

Its a Perodua (Toyota/Daihatsu joint venture company)...... new player in the market, but heck it delivers what it promises :p
SPEC LINKS (http://paultan.org/archives/2005/05/20/perodua-myvi-specifications-and-price/)
i say throw it away and get something with 8 cylinders ;)

Sure, why not, i'll PM you my bank account and you could transfer some greenbacks for me, then i'll get a better car :D

Zef has discussed this before in another car thread. In Malaysia and other Asian countries, you pay a tax on the displacement of the engine, which is why everything from Japan is like 1.2L I-4 with a stage-4 turbo. I'm fine with with my 5809cc v8 (chevy 350 punched out .030" over). With these massive v8's, put a supercharger on it with 7 pounds of boost and you get like..250 more HP. Do a stage-4 turbo and it's over 1,000hp.

Did you watched the BBC documentary "If Oil Runs Out"? Good documentary, the show is about how F*cked the situation when the oil nearly runs out, the oil prices will be ridiculously high, and people will start ditching high displacement cars and SUV and get those japanese cars....... And how people start ignoring environmentalist and go digging in ANWR :D

Joe was right about performance and fuel economy. You have to feed those horses if you want them to perform at their best, and they're going to get thirsty! I know that may not sound hip but it's a fact of life. I wouldn't waste my money on an oil magnetizer, or voltage stabilizer. If you want to boost horsepower a turbo or supercharger should do the trick. Just don't expect better fuel economy from the car after it's modified.
It's cheaper to just keep it stock, well maintained and if it ain't broke... don't fix it! :)

Yeah, I was reading up on getting a supercharger for my beast, and it's $3,000USD (2345 euro), and the catalogue said 250-400hp gain with 7lb boost. When you go over 15 in basically any vehicle, you need to switch over to low-compression pistons, otherwise you'll blow the head gaskets out.

damn only need NOS and make the car more lite and the boosting party is complete :p

its more like you will be blowing rods with that much boost .. unless you are running forged crank, rods, and pistons. ... and thats where the real pricey stuff comes in.
but if you are looking for horsepower to budget ... v8s are the only way to go.
