i would like some suggestions of what i should pick up when i move to san diego for a new project car. preferably a rear wheel drive car. if you make a front wheel drive suggestion you need to justify why. this will be a daily driver and has to be used for autocross play on a regular basis.

...preferably a rear wheel drive car.
Yeah, i prefer rear wheel drive car compared to front wheel drive.........
Reason?
I like to go to the beach, sandy beaches, and from what i've notice, front wheel car tend to stuck in the sand.......
I think this have to do with the weight distribution? I mean the front mounted engine will make the front of the car heavier, thus if you have front-wheel drive it'll dig the sand like there's no tomorrow..........

Owh yeah, stuck at the beaches doesnt make you manly. But moving stuck vehicle makes you one :p

if you do decide to go front wheel drive.

I would suggest a integra Type-R, King of all front wheel drives.

although if you are using it as a daily driver, bad idea Cause it will get stolen...

Well, FWD cars have a tendancy to understeer. This will ususally result in a collision with something head on as the car keeps going forward in a straight line even though you are putting some steering input in. Also there is little you can do to recover from understeer. Candence braking is probably the best. This is where you repeatedly press the brake pedal on and off to prevent the wheels locking up, but been able to steer away from the object at the same time. Also, when accelerating the front of the car will lift which will put less wight on the front end thus reducing grip. Now when you only have two front wheels with power you will get less grip which will result in a wheel spin.

RWD On the other hand have better traction, and are easier to control. Just steer in the direction of the skid...... but you need to balance the power and steering inputs just to get it right. There is more grip when accelerating because the force of the accelation will put force on the back wheels producing more grip. One note though, if you are not used to RWD they can catch you out mid bend and you end up with a tank slapper into a tree.

The ultimate in my opinion 4WD Thats all four wheels experiencing power. More grip round the bends , especially if the cars has a differential fitted. The differential will power the wheels that are experiencing the most grip, so if you drive over a patch of oil and the two outside wheels go through it, the power will go to the remaing two wheels. Now then, if you have a viscous or helical limited slip differential (mitsi evo's) then when you go around a corner, the power will be directed to the two outside wheels to propel the car around the corner. Some cars even have a driver controlled diffeential, so you can split the torque from the front to the back. that would be the most beneficial.

I had a misubishi lancer evolution 7 fq300 (abit of a mouthful) and you do learn to appreciate these things, and a limited slip differential can make the world of difference.:thumb:

uuhhh, no:D i was thinking of an E36 BMW. a 325is between 92 and 96. plenty of aftermarket out there for it and definitely a car that i can make real fast.

this intergra i have now is the first FWD that i've ever bought for myself. and i can't afford a nice AWD car. I do like the Audio A4 Quattro's of the 96-98 period. that might be doable.

yea the audi quattro's are awsome. I just had a look at the E36 and they are supposed to be pretty quick too. Plus they are RWD.

Lots of modding potential too.

What do you think of the integra then>?

the integras have much potential. i have one now that i picked up for a beater that's a 90 and i can feel that it has alot that can be improved for some serious go. the aftermarket is definitely there. matter of fact there is a guy on base that has the same year model(including 4dr.) and has done a nice job on it. i was toying with keeping the integra and shipping it to san diego with me.

i have an LS and i could build what they call a Frankenstien motor. that's the LS block with a 1.6L VTEC head. the torque of the LS with the high end hp potential with the VTEC and airflow of the 1.6 head. the only thing is for serious power i'd have to go turbo and i don't want to go that route with the integra. i prefer naturally asperated motors as the power is on tap throughout the rev range. with turbo's you have to be very knowledgable with what your doing so that you don't get to much turbo lag. any turbo has lag even if it's not noticable to the average person with a good setup.

the Audi Quattro i was contemplating would be the 1.8 turbo as the motor was designed from the start to be turbo'd. it also has more power potential than the V6 version of the car if you know what to do for less money. i believe i could get 350hp out of the 1.8T with the right components and tuning for a daily driver. i'd keep it as a sleeper as much as possible though. i'm not about the wings and crazy paint jobs. a very good suspension and the right lightweight rims are all i need. maybe a sutle body kit that is functional for aerodynamics only.

trust me when i say that i think of everything the minute i think of a car for a project. i could even push the displacement of the 1.8 to 2.0L's to get more torque and power out of it. i'd keep the light weight of the 4cyl while getting some nice power. i'm all about balance when it comes to working on a car. top speed isn't a concern for me since we don't have any autobahn's here in the states. with the right gearing i could get great acceleration while still having a 150+mph top speed. for me it's all about getting through them turns:D he'd whoop my @$$ around the same track on any bike though. dudes a demon on 2 wheels, lol. i had to prove to him that 2 and 4 wheels are completely different getting around the track.

about a year and some change ago i raced a buddies Porche Boxster with another friends WRX. mind you the Boxster was worked on to get almost 400hp and i still whooped his butt around the track:D most of the Porche's power was in the upper rev band while the WRX had plenty throughout the rev band. balance and driver skill will take you alot further than just straight power.

^LOL like he can afford it, anyway if you have the dough then i'd say a Lancer Evo if not a 240SX is RWD:sniper:
