View Full Version : KATANA (Japs' Sword)!
Just got a authentic 3-piece Katana..............
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a188/hil2mi/KATANA1.jpg
Yup, 3 different sizes. Japanese warlord carried these three katana, the smallest ones are used for seppuku (Commit Suicide) whilst the remaining two are used for duels!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a188/hil2mi/KATANA2.jpg
This Katana was forged around 20+ times. Medieval Katana was forged around 250+ times, which makes it durable and strong. To put it bluntly, my katana would just shattered if it meets those real, medieval katana. But well, it was enough to cut any unlucky people who trespassed my house!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a188/hil2mi/KATANA3.jpg
The longest katana measured 3'3 (98CM) and you could see how long it was against the microsoft natural keyboard........
Going to get it polished until the metal surface became like mirror........

It cost me around RM220 (US$57.89), which is deadly cheap....... the thing about samurai sword here is that its legal to own one. We dont have those "Right To Bear Arms" amendments like those in western countries. So, katana is the ultimate weapon of defense (if you know how to wield it).
Like i say, the price of Katana here depends on how many times the metal was forged, and heavily forged Katana will pwned those low quality ones. What i mean by that is if the sharp edge of both sword meet, the low quality katana will become blunt.... and the high quality ones still retains its sharpness
so what will you be using them for ?
display ?
to fight off burglars ?
sword figthing ?
drive by cutting ? :P
Display = Hell yeah, i'm displaying these sweet weapons!
Fight Off Bulglars = Probably, if he didnt have guns then i'll pwned him
Sword Fighting = thought of cutting my brother or friend to pieces send shiver down my spine.... so no, no sword fighting!
Drive By Cutting = Not until i have faster car........ :D
my sword flies :p

there was a master katana forger from like the 6th century or something that pretty much perfected the art of forging a katana. his techniques are what pretty much every master uses now. his swords are priceless pieces. the thing is that he didn't sign all of his swords like the masters of his time and after did so it takes an expert in identifying his swords to authenticate them. they still hold thier edges till this day. japanese rich kid i used to skate with had a family set in the house. his father told me they were originally forged in the 12th century and that they had been folded over 600 times. they come from nobility that was almost wiped out during the samurai wars. they look beautiful man. a quality piece just oozes it's perfection.
when i asked if i could hold one his pops flipped out. even his son wasn't allowed to touch them. got a huge lecture in manners in the japanese culture and such. i felt a little stupid afterwards:D never seen a real set let alone a real single piece before or since.
*edit* Masamune was the name of the dude i was talking about who is considered the greatest sword maker ever. even in todays sword making competitions masters will attempt to recreate a Masamune sword to win. and his era was the 1300's. here's a Wikipedia write up on him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masamune
and here is a demonstration of just how powerful a true katan is: The old Katana vs. .50 caliber machine gun (http://www.compfused.com/directlink/608/)

Edged weapons do not need reloading and the average shooting is at close enough range that if the assailant is not on his toes, a properly trained defender can take him with a butter knife.
However, that's not the point of owning a really good sword. It's the appreciation of the artistry of it.

With that kind of process, that katana would cut my katana like butter......... i can imagine the effort and expertise put into producing one of those. Certainly takes month to produce one, i reckon :D

Well spoken, suitepotato. Certainly these katana would look sweet for decorations, and in addition to that the ability to slash people is also welcomed :D
My next target is a antique musket............. since i cannot buy or own pistol here, musket is the nearest thing i could get. Now, to find gunpowder and saltpeter would be a pain in the ass :D

korean swords........ two handed, it takes time to master these swords. It is said that because of the superiority of two-handed swordfighting, japanese were kept at bay from invading korea....
And most of korea fighting style originates from Japan, they improved it, and yeah, it worked most of the time :p
And your mom kept it away from you because she's afraid that those swords fell into the hands of Daleks :D
Then human race will be in big trouble!

nova you with your guns :(
i admire martial artists quite much especially those that arent just a few techniques but real moves. but nowadays people are cowards huh
if u look at the turkish out here in my country you would be suprised of those dishonoarble lame cowards they only dare to fight if they are with way more
you can't even ask them to come one by one and make a line :D
but they rather treathen you with those small pocket knifes :)
big deal with the pocket knife. i was stabbed with a 4 inch blade when i was 16 and it felt like i was punched real hard and got all warm. not much pain at first. didn't hit me till about an hour later and after the stiches. now if someone came at me with one of them crocodile dundee knifes i'd get real nervous:D
ok as a sword heres what i'd consider http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeAiAMc-Ch8

LOL, that's a crappy sword, useful for clearing forest and killing animals that run wild into the village.......
My country, indonesia and philliphine have used that weapon for hundreds of year..... the difference is only to the name, we called it parang, indonesian called it golok and philipino called it bolo
You could read more inWIKIPEDIA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parang_(knife))
Anyway why i say it's useless? During the Japanese occupation of south-east asia, apparently those weapon fails when the japs use their Katana's. Japanese wont shoot you if you wield a close range weapons, they will take out their katana and chop you off :p

Thats what i like about them they have real honor;) if u are better you will survive  if u are weaker you are out of luck but you had your chance cant say that for gunners huh exept those clockshooting in the western movies when it becomes a hour pull your pistol the one thats faster and acurate wins :p i dont say all japs are like it depends on witch one you run onto i guess
well the reason i chose that is because it could be used in conjunction with a shield

You should know that many people, almost most of us who bought katana set have tested or played the katana with friends or family. I played around the Katana with my bro', its a bit dangerous but heck its cool...........
So, all those scrathes here and there might've been caused by some jackass dueling eachother :D

Hope they use reverse blades :scared: those were quite popular a few years ago most have been because of Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) it had much influence on me as well when i was young :)
Ive had some swords for many years now they look great as ornaments and when you have friends over they are prety impressed at the coolness :)
Ive got the Sword form the film BLADE :D thats awsome and comes on a special stand, thats on window sill. The i got the samauri and nunja 3000 Collection :)
They come sheethed and have aspecial hidden lock so anyone picking them up cant get them out their holders unless they know wher the button is :D
I'll get some pics and post soon
have you seen the chinese ones that have the hook in the blade design? i can't remember the name and am to tired to google it right now. them suckers can chop a 4 inch branch like butter:D once again though with the katana having the advantage of length and superior strength it will once again be the victor in the right persons hands every time.

na these where new zefram the scraches where on that casing the blade was still rapped in plastic and a couple had dents on the handle one was missing the cap at the end of the handle interly but still 15 bucks normally they go for 50-500 depending on maker design age ect. the auction was also selling some walking canes with a blade built into the center and mediveil design sword (looked like celtic with a fake sapphire in the center)
oh i was just rereading the first page and will we do have the right to bear arms we need a permit for every last inch of the weapon and you need one to keep it you need one carry it you need one to hunt with it god! pisses me off i bet my 4 fathers didnt have to put up with this crap
i have 1 hunting rifle 1 semiauto bb gun 1 handgun

Koreans have crazy swords, KOREAN SWORDSMANSHIP WEBSITE (http://ourworld.cs.com/kuksoolcl/koreanswordsmanship.htm) have all the inso....
Swords ranged from short knife-like blades to the more common long weapons. One famous Korean admiral, Yi Sun-shin, who lived in the late 1500s, had perhaps the longest of all: a 77-inch, 12 pound giant of a weapon
77-Inch, 12-pound swords? How did he weild it?
--Ssang gum means "double swords" and refers to a set of matched blaes. Its smaller brother was the wae gum, a set of mid-sized swords that were larger than daggers but shorter than the full sized ssang gum
Yup, korean are famous for their double blade technique. But they also overshadowed by Japanese Katana's.......... i think this is due to the Japanese influence over our daily lives, for example, i never seen cartoon where koreans weild their weapons, its always japanese anime with some nasty looking piece of swords.......
