I was wondering which type of monitor strains the eyes more: CRT or LCD?

it all depends on what type you get. for example a CRT with 75 hz or higher refresh rate won't strain the eyes, and neither will an LCD with a good response time. unfortunately a really bright LCD (like my last one) will kill your eyes.

That statement needs cleanup. CRT with more than 75hz will reduce the "flicker" and thus you wont feel disoriented when looking at moving images. Unfortunately, CRT will strain your eyes if you use it too long.
My mum's office, by reducing CRT monitor and upgrading it to LCD makes the worker more energetic and productivity increase substantially....... its an engineering firm......

Bright LCD? You should modify the setting....... i notice that most of DELL monitor are too bright, but a simple OSD menu setting fixed that problem. They stored number of 'profiles' inside the OSD's............

The best thing to do is by trying to use these two type of monitor - and determine which one suit you best. My eyes become teary when i use my brother computer (19" CRT), and the same thing happened when my brother use my LCD. Weird but true, monitor option depends on the user itself :p

its not the setting, my old LCD i had the contrast to 50% and the brightness to 0% and it still was to bright. it was a piece of sh1t made by some no name company so that has a lot to do with it, even with my new samsung at 100% brightness its still no where near as bright. oh and btw by bright i meant i couldnt use it for too long because the thing was actually drying my eyes out.

Anyway, nova, did you try lowering down the brightness using Graphic Card drivers?
and what did you do to the monitor? It didnt become the victim of vandalism? LOL :p

I find that LCDs have less eyestrain over extended use, but I still prefer the image quality of a CRT. Namely the fact that you can change resolutions and don't get the "LCD stretch" distortion.
