Movie fixer program

well i wanna clean up all movies that i have since the files arent great quality and are so many that it shouldnt be a waste i want to fix them myself cause i want to have something usefull on my hands. With fixing them i am thinking of more then deleting parts i dont want in them but also adjusting blurry parts and removing black lines next to the movie etc.. i came acroos here but dont know what it should be http://www.videohelp.com/tools looks usefull but will any or multiple of these get the job done ??? What are the file formats/codecs used to encode them?

they are .avi i believe dont know anything else
o i also found Video Delux 2006 that is developed by Magix the cover sayd it did the things i was searchin for i guess but dunno if it is just as good
