A co-worker friend of mine has a laptop that she bought (more or less following my minimum hardware requirements advice). She chose NOT to get a DVD burner when she purchased it (it instead came with a CD burner). She has since realized that she needs a DVD burner. She picked up an external USB model (made by Pioneer but branded as Comstar). She downloads TV shows and movies from Bearshare, mostly .avi files. The burner came with Ulead Movie Maker. She cannot get the software (not the computer) to recognize the burner or the files. What software is available for FREE or cheap download that will let her burn .avi files to DVD that she can then watch on a stand alone DVD player?

well i think you would be able to use NERO. If you visit www.nero.com there is a free trial download available of the latest version (nero 7). They will enable you to burn avi files and do a host of other things.

neros about the only tihng id ever suggest and if she HAD bought a dvdrw model laptop theres a good chance it woulda came with it
