My wonderful computer crashed today and in the process corrupted my SOFTWARE registry hive. In an attempt to get the system to boot again I hastily copied the backup hive from the repair directory over the corrupted one. This worked in that it booted my system, but it caused another problem. My SOFTWARE hive was essentially wiped clean thus removing all my program settings and so forth. Lucky for me I have a restore point on my system from earlier today containing my still operational SOFTWARE hive, however, because I wiped the SOFTWARE hive with the repair (which is where Windows stores references to its restore points), Windows does not recognize the presence of the restore point. That's where you all come in.

I need to force windows xp to load a restore point that it doesn't think exists. The restore point is complete and intact on the drive, but windows just doesn't recognize it. Does anyone know of a utility that can make windows recognize and load the restore point?

I figured it out myself! I simply found the backup of my SOFTWARE hive in the system restore folders and manually replaced it. Voila!
