I'm working on a project involving my projector, what I need to know is if the lamp is being powered by AC or DC, and by how much...
Here's the situation, I fire up the projector without the lamp installed, set my Multimeter to AC, and stick the probes in the power connections for the lamp. The meter reads 0 Vac, so I pull out the probes, switch it to DC and try again. This time it reads 7.97Vdc.
but, As I reach across the table to write the number down (about 5 seconds later) I here POP POP POP POP coming from the multimeter. I yank out the the probes to make it stop.
I take apart my multimeter to inspect the damage to find this

So my question is, what the hell happened?!
P.S. the fuse in the multimeter is NOT blown.
