Very nice. Puts my Samsung 42" 720p DLP tv to shame. Well almost. 1080P still looks alot better than 720p so I don't think of mine as 720p. So when are you going to park your pc next to it and use it as a monitor? lol. What do you have for a sound system? Kind of hard to tell by the grainy pictures, but what type of screen is it? Glossy or a matt finish?

right now i don't have any sound system. i am thinking of building a HTPC, and adding a nice surround system. as for the screen i would have to say its a matt finish.

I would so be hogging that TV right now. Nobody would be able to watch TV, they would all have to watch me play Oblivion & Far Cry lol

Remember those 50 inch are DLP (Digital Light Projection) TV. Its like those rear projection TV but brighter. Good for big and dark living room ;)
And also, DLP-based TV dont really last that long. Dog 2525, take care of it or you'll feel the sting of what we called maintainable and spareparts!
The thing that really annoyed me about DLP based TV and projectors are the color wheel. If they're out of alignment, motor being jerky or anything it'll ruined the overall color reproduction of the television itself. And if you dont know how DLP works, a light is projected infront of a high-spinning color wheel, and in your model it spun at 14k rpm.

And LCD TV's are just outstanding. Their quality went up a lot, even plasma are being deserted because they dont last long as LCD :p

Ooo you should totally do that. Buy some parts and build a new rig and just use your old one as the HTPC if you have money left.

I thought DLP tv's lasted like around 8-10 years depending on useage before they need servicing if I'm not mistaken. Which is the rating for all tv's in my opinion. I personally am sick of staring at an all black box. I love my silver/black style of my tv. Matches my surround sound sytem, computer monitor and Z-5500 along with my standalone dvd players too. Would you just buy a home theatre in a box or would you build yours from scratch? If your sitting close to the tv, can you see little dots of the screen itself? Not talking about a screen door effect, but from the actual finish.

well zefram i bought the DLP because i thought they were going to last the longest. well then i guess not. and mercury, once i have the money i would build a htpc from scratch, and also buy a sound system to go with it.

Owh dont take it wrongly, if you take care of it, then it would last. Just keep all the vents clear of dust as it will restrict airflow ;)

And just a little suggestion, i would position those tv away from those window because the light from outside was kinda distracting and it would 'make' your TV less bright. UV light also dissolve plastic, if you get my drift.
Good position if that window is on the side, because if the window is positioned behind the TV the sun glare would also make it harder to watch the TV.
ITs all about getting the best out of your TV. ;)

HTPC? Just get an Xbox 360 (new version with HDMI), run the media centre and wallah, you got a powerful HTPC-cum-gaming console there :D

And about speakers, i think this SAMSUNG HOME THEATRE SYSTEM (http://www.samsung.com/Products/HomeTheater/HomeTheaterSystem/HT_TQ85TXAA.asp) would suit your TV. Same color, same brand!

P/S : Well, i was curious, if you stick your ear close enough to the TV, do you heard the color wheel spinning? And any cooling fans inside?

yeah you can here something spinning, i believe its the fan on the bulb.
ps: thanks for the speakers, i will look into them.
