System: Dell 1300, Win2K Pro, SP3, FAT32, RAID w/Adaptec AAA-13302

1. My computer name was "DELL" and then changed to "mail".

2. My login name has always been "Administrator". Under documents and settings it changed to Administrator.DELL, probably when I first named it. When I did #1 above the folder still remained Administrator.DELL. As this didn't affect me I left it alone.

3. The other day I had a RAID drive fail, a spare kicked in and I was still up and running. Shut down system to run diagnostics on the spare and then booted up. Windows could not load my user profile because of a corrupt ntuser file - not from lack of space for the registry.

4. After creating a couple more admin accounts for testing, I now have Administrator in doc and settings - not Administrator.DELL. The system boots to the desktop of Administrator but displays strange behavior:

- services.exe is running at 60-80% constantly on all users. I shutdown each service that depends on it but no luck
- Network and Dialup Connections does not open
- Device Manager does not open
- I can ping to Internet but cannot connect with browser
- I can connect from/to the network and transfer files (thankfully)
- clicking on start menu eventually prevents it from opening. restarting explorer.exe solves this

5. I have a backup of the entire hive from Jan 2007 when I had Administrator.DELL.

I've pretty much determined that the course of action is as follows:

1. login as Admin2 (already setup)
2. rename Administrator to Administrator.DELL
3. copy ntuser.dat and UsrClass.dat from January backup to Administrator.DELL
4. use RC to restore January hive

Any thoughts appreciated.
