Couple months ago i destroyed my sisters computer because she was on myspace and other social networking websites and not doing her work. (HDD+hammer= best friends). Now my dad is pushing me to fix it. So i need a program or something to block urls(IE & Firefox). I have a Westall 327W gateway from verzion and it has limited options. The only thing i found there about blocking something is the firewall. Which does nothing.

Short Story:
Need a program or something to block websites (myspace main priority) on my sisters computer. She is connected to the gateway via the ethernet. It hows to work in IE and firefox.

the problem is if your sister is computer savvy, she'll will find a way around the blockage. no software if fool proof.

just use the hostfile in the windows directory on her computer.

this (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm) page has a downloadable host file that will block of alot of spyware and advertising sites. just add on to it to block teh sites you dont want her to be on

well, if router is in your room and your have control over it you can just block it for couple of min. my family has same problem visiting all those pop up website and they use my pc for it so i just use my laptop to stop use of ip adress for a min or two and when they ask for help i just tell them their website disconnected internet. try it, it sure saves me lots of time, the other thing i like to do is keep my ip adress static in order, mean mine is first one so when they go online i just go to router's page look for Maximum Number of DHCP Users and change it to 1 which is mine. works like charm, i keep changing this things since my sisters are getting smarter and smarter everyday.

I am kind of happy for using cheap linksys WRT54G

I hear what you saying, but the problem is that I got this cheap westell 327W from my isp and it has very minimum options. Also, my parents know nothing of computers, so my sister tells them i broke it or something and have to fix it. (sibling rivalry)

I understand, Let me tell you what else you can do, there is a software i used while back which allows you to use network pc using your pc, i don't remembet it top of my head, but i'll post in about week, after looking for it (i have it in my hard drive, and trust me it will be hard to find in .7TB of data)

With this software you can look what they are doing and you can change it too if you want so when every they go on website i just close it using my pc. about 6 month ago my sister had router in her room, and didn't know much about it so i used that software and worked like charm. let me get back to you as soon as i find that software.

Thanks, i know of this program LogMeIn where you can access any computer using the web. Basically a remote access to your pc(or hers)

Sorry this took me so long, but i forgot where i had in my pc, but i finally found out. I don't know about LogMeIn software you are talking about, but the software i have i called Network Lookout Admin. you don't need to access the web, just make sure you both are connected in the same network. i have personally used it and liked it (well, i wan't know much about how to set it up cause i used it at school) but if you want i can send it to you.
