As one of my hobbies I just build a Frankenstein computer, meaning I used all kinds of old used and new updated hardware. So I loaded DOS 6.2 then Windows 3.1.

So now I can't remember how I use to load, I believe were two files to get the CD-Rom Drive recognized and working.

I'm thinking they are two files found in the C: directory that need to be opened??? I forgot???

Anybody remember I'd like to hear from you, thanks in advanced, Joe

when you boot the computer, try holding down the button on the drive. That worked on a later system to reload the drivers, don't know if it'll work here.

Oh okay, I'll give that a try as soon as I drag it back on top the desk... :)

I wish I was able to remember anything I use to know when I use to format old used HDD with DOS 6.2 & Win 3.1 & 95.

Isn't strolling down memory lane with Win 3.1 & Win 95 something to see once in a while, its so funny how things were done, and how drivers had to be so painfully loaded on and set up, where now all you do is blink and its done.. :)

What makes me laugh is with the little bit I do with a computer these days, like I only Email Browse & Search I can still get away with only having Win95... :) ....

I enjoy putting together old hardware just to see if I can do it, because back in the day I wasn't able to do it.

This is what I'm doing now and can't remember how to get the CD-ROM going.

I think it might be one of them CD-Rom's that the drivers are proprietary to it self, you know they come with a new built unit. I'm not that good where I know how to get around that type of lock.

If you can figure out what kind of drive it is, maybe you can search and find the driver for it on the net somewhere. There are lots of places that have drivers for every imaginable piece of hardware.

Two years ago I replaced a CD Burner with similar that came from a store bought desk top.

It would only read and not burn, I needed to find drivers that were made for it.

I found a site that had drivers for everything, the driver I needed said I had to contact the dealer/manufacturer where I bought the unit. The message I got was clear the driver was only for the person who bought the Burner.

I guess I still need to find that web site that will have all the drivers.

On another note:

I must be missing something, I bought a older windows 3.1 sound card thru ebay to keep this old PC alive for my Dad because of the games he likes on it, but wanted sound. Forget about it, there was no way I knew how to get that card working with the driver I found out there, I really don't know what I'm doing half the time, I just chalk it up to being lucky at times and figure the two pieces of hardware were just not compatible even tho they look like they should be... :)
