Are there any spyware removers that ACTUALLY work with Vista 64-Bit?

I tried installing Ad-Aware, but AVG (Anti-Virus) detects it as a Trojan, doesnt matter what version I download and where I download it from

NOD32 works for me. I think theres a whole bunch out now that work.

Which version r u using?

jdrom17

Oh wait. Sorry, you want an anti-spyware program? NOD32 is AntiVirus mainly. I have v2.70.32 if your still wondering.

For Anti-Spyware, just use Windows Defender. Should be good enough and its free with Vista.

LOL, I went onto download.com to check it out, and it said it was an antivirus, thats why I asked u which version u were using

I've never gotten spyware or anything like that so thus I never worry too much. Using Firefox definately helps with that I guess.

Hmmm.. Never heard of that programme before. Hopefully Windows Defender does the job.

Also, what firewall are u guys using? Or r u using the windows version?

jdrom17

Again, no firewall. I have Windows Defender and Firewall disabled. My router has a firewall which I find does the job just fine. I guess I'm just cautious about what I download/install/click on. Don't really need all these resource hogging programs running.

On xp i use, spyware blaster, spyware guard, spybot S&D and ad-aware

I don't know how many of them work on vista x64, but their very good

as to firewalls, i don't use one either, my IPCop firewall is much better then any software firewall

Yeh I used to use Ad-Aware on XP, but it doesnt seem to work on 64 Bit Vista. Ad-aware was very good 2 me.

SpyBot on the other hand...

just use windows defender, it works fine. thats all i have on XP, and i can run an adaware scan anytime on XP and wont find anything.

windows defender will stop things before they even get on there. its good for prevention. another good thing for prevention, is this hosts file

I'm currently using Norton 360 on my Windows Vista and it worked well enough.......... lack of option and constant nagging about this issue and that issue annoys me though. Sadly, no other security suite as stable as Norton 360 on Vista :p

Windows Defender is a load of crap when it comes to detection. That is why you might think you don't have any spyware. :)

I do a lot of Virus/Spyware removal at my work. Some of the best programs include Spyware Doctor, Trend Micro Anti-Spyware, Ewido, Spy Sweeper(I know it has issues running on 64 bit), Spybot search and destroy. Those are the ones that I'd recommend.

I love Spybot's teatimer add-on. It will prompt me before any value is added to the registry.

I've had bad experiences with SpyBot a year ago on XP. It ended up deleting a registery key that was very important and I couldnt get onto the net, even tho I tried many browsers.

Right now im using AVG internet security, its got an Anti Spyware, so its all good

Ive been using spybot for like 3-4 years now, not a single problem, usually run a scan once a week to once a month

Are you serious? Norton? Gawd, I hate that program so much. Try out NOD32 Zef, I think you might just like it ;)

I wouldn't let Norton get any where near my computer.

Norton?! How the hell is Symantec still making money? It's like that rapper 50 Cent, his complete crap and does no justice for real hip hop, yet his a multi- millionaire

Why god? WHyyyyyy! /rant

Norton Antivirus 07 uses less system resources than any other Antivirus program out there.

The most I have see it use so far is 12 meg. NOD32 seems to sit right around 30-35. NAV 07 is a quality product. Anything before 07, I'd burn it before I'd use it.

NOD32 uses 20MB for me. Appears to be running in 32bit mode...I thought it was 64bit.

I'd go with Ewido (AVG now?), Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware 2007. Used them all and they seemed the best.

RayZahT
08-15-07, 05:02 PM
Ad-Aware doesnt work with Vista X64. And AVG has been causing problems. Im using Avast Home Edition, and Spybot at the moment

RayZahT

Why is SpyBot not getting rid of the spyware its found? When I click on fix problems, the trackers have a green tick next 2 them. I decided to do the scan again, just to make sure, and the same spywares and trackers were found again. So, its not getting rid of the spyware. Whys that?

NOD32 uses 20MB for me. Appears to be running in 32bit mode...I thought it was 64bit.

Norton 360 uses about 40MB of RAM, but that is negligible since it integrates with windows vista............ and it worked well with vista, so go figure :p

Symantec AV corp seems to be using just short of 70mb
Nice and resource friendly ey, but then again i havent been overrun by a virus, ever (touch wood)

Well whatever floats your boat TBH, i dont even know if thats all of it, technically it could be adding lots more to other procceses (eg svchost)

NOD32 doenst scan properly. It keeps coming up with "Folder Locked" or "Folder Protected" on certain files and folders when its scanning

Unfortunately the new Ad-Aware doesnt work on 64Bit :(

Im currently not using any anti-spyware protection. Its like going commando!

You might want to try this beta:
http://www.eset.com/beta/

WHAT IS ESET SMART SECURITY?

ESET Smart Security is a new product designed to provide comprehensive protection against a variety of threats. It features the following:

• The next version of ESET's anti-malware engine with comprehensive protection against adware, rootkits, spyware, Trojan horses, viruses, worms and other types of malicious software
• A personal firewall with port stealthing and advanced filtering features
• An antispam filter with Bayesian filtering, whitelisting and blacklisting.

Everything all-in-one :) Haven't tired it myself though. As for the locked files/folders, that's usually system files which are obviously in use. Other AV programs just don't even bother showing you.

I use Spyware Doctor and Spybot Search & Destroy. But anything in combination with SB:S&D is great.
