Widget- HD Problems

I downloaded a Yahoo Widget earlier, and i think it was conflicting with my HD. It was a widget which had information about all the Drives (c:/, E:/ etc), but everytime thats on, my hard drive makes a weird, grinding kind of noise, and it definetly is my hard drive. And everytime I turn that widget off, my HD stops making the noise

Why is that happening?

Don't use that widget? There must be others with similar function.

Yeh i turned it off straight away, but I dont know why it did that. It was a cool widget nontheless

its either because your HDD is dieing, or that's just the noise it makes when its scanning the drive
I'm guessing the widget is scanning all the files on your HDD, which makes it a bit more noisy, if its making it grind or something, the HDD may be on the way out and that's its death song

I just bought the HD brand new, it cant be dying. Its making a grinding noise yeh, but thats only when the Widget is on, its prolly scanning or something

The HDD may be faulty if its brand new
I cant really judge, it may just be a normal operating noise

But often "grinding" sounds mean the HDD is dieing, and you should replace it
However, it may just be because the widget is scanning the HDD and that stresses it and makes it sound bad
